Please Forgive Me

Posted on August 23, 2008 at 4:17pm 0 Comments

To those who read the Daily Stories, please forgive me for not posting one every day this week. I have been working to help set up a Halloween store in our local area and we have been working hard to get things ready for the Sept. 1 opening. This coming week will be the same, but hopefully once things are set up and we are open, things will calm down and I will have more time.

It is my hope that you enjoy these stories and share them with the people in your lives.

The Guardian of Yosemite

(Miowak Tribe)

retold by

S. E. Schlosser

For many nights and many days, the guardian spirit of Tisayac watched over the beautiful valley of Yosemite. Often, the gentle spirit would drift invisibly among the good folk of the valley, and it was during one of these visits that she noticed a tall, proud man named Tutokanula. He was a strong leader who greatly enhanced the lot of his people, and Tisayac came more often to the valley so that… Continue

Legend Of Wolf Boy

A Kiowa Legend

There was a camp of Kiowa. There were a young man, his wife, and his

brother. They set out by themselves to look for game. This young man

would leave his younger brother and his wife in camp and go out to

look for game. Every time his brother would leave, the boy would go

to a high hill nearby and sit there all day until his brother

returned.

One time before the boy went as usual to the hill,… Continue

The Pretty Maiden

There was once a young woman who was very pretty. All the young men greatly admired her and wished her for their wife, but the young woman spurned all their advances and would have no suitor.

Seeing this, the animals, Tamakwa (Beaver), Shikak (Skunk), and Kukhus (Owl), held council about the pretty maiden. They said to each other, "I sure would like to have this woman for my wife."

Owl said, "If we try really hard, one of us will surely have… Continue

The Buffalo Woman (From Daughters of the Earth)

Comanche

Once a handsome young Comanche boy of well-to-do parents accompanied a party of hunters who went out to look for buffalo. The boy selected and attractive young buffalo calf for his prey. He struck the calf with two arrows, but she did not fall.

It was very unusual for an animal shot in this way not to die, but the young buffalo had fallen in love with the boy and had supernaturally retained her life.… Continue

Salutation to the Dawn

Look to this day!
For it is life, the very life of life,
In its brief course
Lie all the verities and realities of your existence:

The bliss of growth,
The glory of action,
The splendor of beauty,
For yesterday is but a dream
And tomorrow only a vision,
But today well lived makes every yesterday
a dream of happiness
And every tomorrow a vision of hope.

Look well, therefore, to this day!
Such is the salutation of the dawn.

Kalidasa (2500 BC Sanskrit)
