In an effort to further my rune studies, I'm seriously considering a trip to Iceland sometime next summer. Does anyone have any suggestions of where to stay, what to see, or when to go? I would like…Continue

So far every pagan tradition I've come across uses some kind of ritual blade and all of them have different opinions on how it should be used. Some people insist on using a ritual blade, such as an…Continue

Donovan Piko replied to Wolfspeaker's discussion Why the earth element may be male, not female in the group Solitary Witch
"I only see them as receive or give, which is why earth *can* be seen as female... only my perception. fire sends light (male), air gives to life, water gives to life, earth nurtures / recieves... if that is sensible."

"Well, in most pagan Indo-European cultures the earth/ soil is re: as female because it is the spring rain, which is a metaphor for the semen of the IE bull-god of thunder and the sun (i.e.. Zues, the Daghda, Jupiter, Thor, etc.).  Perhaps,…"

Saulf replied to Wolfspeaker's discussion Why the earth element may be male, not female in the group Solitary Witch
"Everything in nature has a little bit of male and a little bit of female in it, the only reason that people portray it otherwise in my opinion is for the sake of semantic symbolism."

Sophie Jones replied to Wolfspeaker's discussion Why the earth element may be male, not female in the group Solitary Witch
"This is one of the places where different European traditions have always disagreed. Celtic traditions tend to see Earth as feminine, Germanic traditions tend to see Earth as masculine. Neither is correct and neither is wrong. "

About Me:
A college student majoring in cultural anthropology. I have far too many hobbies so I never complete my projects before beginning a new one. I love all creature great and small, fuzzy and slimy, but I wish mosquitoes didn't love me back. I'm on an Epic Quest For Knowledge, but so far I've only learned enough to realize how little I know. I collect books, rocks, and Egyptian stuff. Someday I would like to teach a workshop on crystal magic from the perspective of a geologist, or a workshop on making rune sets.

- "Vampire Hunter D Series" by Hideyiki Kikuchi
- "Through Wolf's Eyes" by Jane Lindskold (and all the sequels)
- "Hellsing" by Kouta Hirano (manga)

NONFICTION

Beliefs / Practices
Pagan, Witch, Wiccan, Heathen
Other Beliefs/Practices
I'm a weird mix of Wiccan practices and rituals with Egyptians gods and Norse runes thrown in. *shrug* My patron god is Set, lord of chaos, storms, power, and sexuality. I also love Isis, Anubis, Serket, Freya, and Pele (whom I had a wonderful visit with on my trip to Hawaii!). Recently I've taken a liking to Loki as well.

I believe in a universal power that is greater an all of us that runs the universe the way a computer runs programs. No, I do not think it interferes with out daily lives. Whatever gods we believe in are the constructs of our own minds, and out collective belief in their existence creates the wellspring of power we draw upon when invoking them. They are archetypes, given a name and personalities so we can better connect with them.

I don't know where we go when we die, or if life is a matter of fate or many coincidences. I prefer to think that it is all random, but a crafty person can see the patterns and use them to affect the result. Magic is harnessing the power all things in the universe have and using it to influence a pattern to your favor. Most of it is mind over matter, the rest is miraculous and unexplainable.

I believe in cursing; that is, if you are wiling to accept responsibly for you actions if it backfires. Personality, I do not curse others, I am merely proactive in my defense. For example, I am planning to place a spell on my car that curses people to get caught by the police when they break the law and drive recklessly. Luckily, I am a good driver, so I won't be caught by my own trap.

I work with runes and crystals a lot. Most of my magic is very "folky," charm bags filled with herbs, crystals, and the like. I've found magic doesn't need to be complicated to work. Sometimes in life less is more.
Hobbies
Reading, writing fanfiction, belly dancing, singing, pottery, sketching, and a hundred other things and projects I never complete.
Heroes
- Leonardo da Vinci: I am in love with that man's brain.
- Anne Rice: I want to publish a werewolf book series and have it be as famous as The Vampire Chronicles.
- Dita von Teese: I want to be that kind of sexy.

Hello. I have messed with Runes a bit. Mostly writing them out or making binderunes. I have found that when I am doing this I can feel the energy that they possess. If I am messing with them at night my dreams are quite interesting.

Do you like your cornbread baked or fried? I like it fried in corn oil, real honest to goodness wet butterflake buttermilk added to the batter. Then set them on a stack heavy on the real butter, slice like cake and enjoy. The farther down the layers the heavier the butter concentration. Mmm, just the way I like it fried and greasy. Blessings to You {:o)
