I have personally planted well over twenty thousand native trees across Northeast Wisconsin. When I started planting, landowners would say things like, "That's not a creek, that's a ditch." or ask, "Why do you want to plant trees?" Sometimes they ...

Look around, reach out, establish places that reflect tenets of Earth-sanctity. Yesterday, I found a site of 1.2 acres for $30,000. A very rough, six bedroom farmhouse exists there, as well as a swayback barn, but they do exist. At the edge of tow...

About Me:
Father, Grandfather, shaman, exterior decorator, ecologist, artist, efficiency expert, stagehand. I believe in lifelong learning and sharing knowledge with seekers. I have wanted to heal the schism between mankind and nature since childhood. The local non-profit that my wife and I started four years ago has already planted over fifteen thousand trees across Northeast Wisconsin. I am facinated by permaculture and sustainability. I continue to shamelessly fund raise for a retreat center, adventure resort, demonstration reforestation and organic subscription farm. We work to preserve a large acreage, protecting it from development and creating a legacy farm for the next seven generations.

Michigan Trees, Brave New World, A Biodynamic Farm, 1984, The Natural Step, Farenheit 451, Ecoshamanism, Animal Farm, Rural Renaissance, Watership Down, any Hesse, Living on 12 volts, Witches Circle and whatever I'm reading at the moment.
Beliefs / Practices
Spiritual but not Religious, Pagan, Shaman, Native American Spirituality, Druid
Other Beliefs/Practices
I was raised a Unitarian Universalist, and believe that indigenous and tribal ways are essential to heal the earth and her people. I practice karma yoga, the art of the give-back, storytelling, honoring the earth through ritualized art, event theater and planting as many native trees as donations allow. I believe that we have to reestablish ourselves as integrated in nature rather than as the earth's oppressors if we are to continue providing future generations a place to exist here on the planet. I also believe that the idea of thinking globally is out of the question. Like perceiving "God, or Goddess" is beyond the range of our capacities. All that is left is to think and act locally. We can only live what we know. Tune in, turn on, drop out, only then can you begin to rebuild the world of the future. The rune that represents the empty pot has been influential in my life because I came from nothing and will return to nothing, but along my path lies limitless bounty. It is only through selfless giving that we open ourselves to the profusion of nature's gifts.
Hobbies
Art, bikes, canoes, camping, permaculture, energy efficiency improvements, renewable energy, tree planting and care. Some change with the seasons, and bring me into more intimate contact with Mother Earth's cycles.
Heroes
Anyone who isn't afraid to stand up for themselves, especially their beliefs. Abe Lincoln, I think he would be spinning in his grave if he knew what the wealthy had done to his party! All of our brethren who wake up each day with next to nothing, but share all they have to make life tolerable for others.
Likes
Trees, the smell of healthy soil, green energy, good company, handmade and homemade things, the sounds of nature, and being a thorn in the side of the status quo!
Dislikes
Commercialism, most "isms" I guess. Bailouts and corporate welfare, shallow people, the mean and pessimistic among us. The lack of openness that is fostered by intolerable levels of hurt that face truly caring humans. petro-mediated outdoor experiences. Patchouli oil, though the flowers aren't bad. Posers and fair weather friends.

New Patriotism

Patriotism has been referred to as the "Religion of the Soil". We do have a mystic relationship with local microbes. After all, we mutually exchange gasses with the same "local" air. We rely on their existence, inhabiting all the spaces around and some within us. Without bacteria, fungi, and primary decomposers, we would drown in waste. In a single handful of living, healthy soil, billions of relationships weave a complex web of life. It is time for us to have a true worshipful attitude toward s… Continue

Jingoism, Whom Do We Serve?

I have lived through two periods of mindless flag waving, and hyper patriotism. Once, back in the seventies, when America (Pardon me, for anyone from Canada, Mexico, South or Central America.) celebrated two-hundred years of independence. In those days, it seemed, we had more to be excited about. The vast majority of our population was living a higher standard of living than their parents. Virtually everyone had experienced civics classes, which taught the structure and function of the seven bra… Continue

Les Paul Dies

We mourn the passing of one of life's little known heroes. He broke the bounds of one discipline to bring ideas and insight to realms that were to be tinderboxes of evolutionary thought and ideas during the social and spiritual "enlightenment" of the "Forties", "Fifties", (Yes, I said it!") "Sixties", and beyond. One man, whose undeniable impact far exceeds all the homes that were invaded, spawning the phrase, "Turn that down!" His impact eclipses that of the endless drone of chord practice and… Continue

Yes, groundwater in the dolomite aquifer is highly suseptible to surficial contamination, but so is the sand and and gravel (uppermost) aquifer. The latter is frequently used, even by towns. The deep, sandstone aquifer is another consideration and is tapped further west of you. There are strata of overlying shale that are protective of the dolomite, east of Green Bay. The shale (Makoqueta Formation) terminates along a southwest line to the east side of Lake Winnebago. There are a lot of details that I can provide for any particular land, especially hydrogeology which is my professional specialty.
For one long term goal, I would see the forests return to dominate as they once did in so many places. That means I want to plant trees everywhere and bring back other native species. Let the Oak King and Holly King reign evermore :)
Also like you, I would provide education about environmental concerns. My focus should regard my specialty, ground water. Unfortunately, most hydrogeology classes tend to focus on the engineering of groundwater withdrawals and contaminant cleanups. A much more wide-ranging scope is needed. While my professional concern regards the latter, perhaps less remedial effort would be required if the hydrogeological settings were considered. But humans only consider the environment after the damage is done.
It may be too late for us, but we can mitigate our footprint. Consider the following poem, "Earth Song":
Where the land remembers
Before torn by the plow,
Flowers glowed like embers
With magicks to endow,

Memories of the trees
Haunt the burgeoning throng,
And upon guns they seize
No longer knowing wrong,

When the lands remember
Their taste for human blood,
Not one thing, not ever
Could stop the crimson flood,

But for earthen magick
In hearts happy with spring,
Let the flowers grow thick
To bring back Earth's blessing!

Your mission is one I share, in planting/conserving as many trees as possible. I'd like to help financially, though am presently unemployed. My professional field, hydrogeology, actually has interests in such conservation efforts as we share.
I'm thinking that we could help each other in this mission. I would like to start a non-profit, similar to that you have. I'd also like to help as I can, even planting trees, etc. Let me know what you think.

Hi............ Thanks for stopping by and sorry for the wait for my reply. I would love to help you with info regarding germany. I have only been here for 3 years and the only area I know is Wittgenstein in the Rotthar Mountains. There are miles and miles of trees and valleys and it seems the only thing to do is walk.....and enjoy solitude. I keep away from the Cities, the nearest being Köln about an hour and half drive.
I'm still in the process of learning German so am unable to help you with the name Eck and my husband being Swiss is unsure about it too.
May peace and light be with you this weekend :)
