Quiet friend who as come so far,
Feel how your breathing make
more space around you.
Let this darkness be a bell tower
And you the bell. As you ring,

What batters you becomes your strength
Move back and forth into the change.
What is it like, such intensity of pain?
If the drink is bitter, turn yourself to wine

In this uncertainable night
Be the mystery at the crossroads of your senses,
the meaning discovered there.

And if the world has ceased to hear you,
Say to the silent earth: I flow
To the rushing water, speak: I am.

I was called at the age of 10 to the pantheon of ancient Egypt, though I didn't understand that for a long time. At present, I serve Sekhmet, known in antiquity by 4000 epithets, including the Eye of Ra, and "One who Comes in Peace." The most common myth of Sekhmet is one involving her wrathful nature. However she is a goddess of dualities: of pestilence and healing, of war and preserving order. I work also with her sister Bastet, also known as the Eye of Ra, an epithet commonly given to the Cat Goddesses. Recently I have been working with their connections to the Great Goddess Mut of the Theban triad. Throughout history the Lioness and the Cat have been seen in partnership with her. I understand the three--Bastet, Sekhmet and Mut--as a maiden, mother and crone triad.

I have also a strong love of the natural world. My animal totems are the Wolf, the Hawk and the Dragonfly. I travel with all three in my shamanic journeying.

I am still learning. I practice alone and keep this side hidden from those who don't know me well. Being a solo practitioner has challenges, not the least of which is learning from books and not other people.
Favorite Books
My reading follows several directions and I always have at least two books I'm reading at a time, one fiction and one non-fiction.

At present, I'm reading several books on the history of ancient Egypt, along with others specifically devoted to the goddesses. At present, I am working most with a book called "The Goddess Sekhmet" by Robert Masters. I'm also interested in Tarot and Shamanism studies.

Literary Favorites include the short stories of Alice Munro and Andrea Barrett, especially Munro's "The View from Castle Rock", which are the genealogical stories I long to write, and the novels of Anne Tyler and Alice Hoffman. I also like A.S. Byatt, Collette, Ann Patchett, Marion Zimmer Bradley, Eudora Welty, Raymond Carver, Thomas Hardy and Shakespeare.

Non-fiction favs include "Seeds of Destruction" by F. William Engdahl. I just finished reading Thomas Friedman's "Hot, Flat and Crowded." I read a lot in environmental studies and politics.
Beliefs / Practices
Pagan, Shaman, Other Spirituality
Other Beliefs/Practices
I have an interest in Celtic traditions and use a Celtic based Tarot deck.
Hobbies
Volunteering for conservation organizations
Family genealogy
Reading
Writing fiction
Heroes
Marija Gimbutas, scholar of the old Goddess cultures - "I reject the assumption that civilization refers only to androcratic warrior societies. The generative basis of any civilization lies in its degree of artistic creation, aesthetic achievements, nonmaterial values, and freedom. . . .as well as a balance of powers between the sexes."

Margaret Mead, scholar of the aboriginal ways - "Never doubt that a small group of committed people can change the world. Indeed it is the only thing that ever has."

Tillie Olsen, chronicler of womens lives

I also much admire those in the forefront of the conservation and environmental movements; individuals willing to take a stand against the excesses of humankind which are destroying the natural world on which we all depend.

You are The High Priestess

Science, Wisdom, Knowledge, Education.

The High Priestess is the card of knowledge, instinctual, supernatural, secret knowledge. She holds scrolls of arcane information that she might, or might not reveal to you. The moon crown on her head as well as the crescent by her foot indicates her willingness to illuminate what you otherwise might not see, reveal the secrets you need to know. The High Priestess is also associated with the moon however and can also indicate change or fluxuation, particularily when it comes to your moods.

Hi, glad you liked the photo. I took this at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC. There are 8 statues total flanking the entrance to the room of the Temple of Dendur. It's a dramatic and powerful exhibit. The Egyptian wing at that museum is one of the best in the world. If you ever get to go there, you will be awed. I have been there so many times and it never gets old, The scale if this wing is dazzling.

Sorry about mixing you up with the other Sekhmet I know. She will be interested to know there are more Sekhmets out there. I DO have a fascination in Egyptian mythology and Baal is my favorite. Maybe one day I can go into trance and contact Baal! Yes, lets do keep in touch. I like you already. Call it my 6th sense.

Hello Witch daughter of Arabia,
First off I adore your name as in Leland's "Goddess of Arabia." I think I got that right. Antway, it was an excellent book. Second of all, which may be no gid deal to you., I'm a native Michiganer as well. I lived in Detroit, Monroe, and Ida. Now I live in Columbia, SC (don't ask me why) but I do miss the 4 seasons. When it's winter down here, it;s like summer up there , if you can imagine that. I think it's global warming. Cherokeerose
