About Me:
Willow Firesong is a perpetual student, currently going through a bit of a secluded phase (though my presence here may be evidence of that phase coming to an end), who has become known to those who know her name mostly for making an effort to share the music of the pagan community, with a focus on the songs of the Yule/Winter season, and those which can be sung to the omnipresent carols of the Northern Hemisphere's Christmas season. I'm also a sufferer from Environmental Illness, with a strong focus on healing (from the damage done to our health as the world is poisoned) by eliminating the toxins of the modern world from a life that instead draws on the medicines and natural properties of the earth. It is my firm belief that superstition is not equivalent to belief, or to myth, and that we learn more if our open minds do not require us to give up our common sense and skepticism (which is about having a questioning mind, not about working from a preconceived dogma). "Science" is not, and can never be, the enemy of any belief founded in reality, as long as we remember that science is about a method used to seek the truth, and not about simply trading one unquestioning set of beliefs for another. I don't believe that anyone can encompass a complete understanding of reality, so I think that we all have more that we can learn, and things that we believe that could, at least, be refined into greater accuracy and understanding. I speak of my beliefs as being "the circle of firelight" which Aristotle described when he spoke of our grasp of reality being like that of a person watching the shadows cast by truth, upon the wall of a cave, when all they can see is the shadow and not the thing that cast it. So much of modern science is confirming this, that our apprehension of reality is dependent upon our way of observing it, I cannot truly understand why any person would choose either unquestioning belief or unbelieving questioning, instead of an acceptance that while what we can know is limited by our means of observation, we can at least learn something of the underlying patterns of reality by pooling our knowledge, and studying the points of consistency that emerge.

Favorite Books
Goodness, I've really got to make this list -- I read so much it's hard to narrow it down to a few favourites.

Useful books for debate purposes have to include The Bible (you can't effectively argue with something you don't know anything about), and "Satanism in America: How the Devil Got Much More than His Due" (a fact-based debunking of the claims made by the "Satanic Panic" types, who want to see a giant conspiracy sacrificing babies right and left)

Good introductory books on paganism, IMHO, include "Drawing Down the Moon", "The Spiral Dance" (I like the expanded later edition), "Real Magic" (by P.E.I. Bonewitz), and for the Eastern beliefs "The Tao of Pooh", "The Teh of Piglet", "The Tao is Silent" (gotta love Raymond Smullyan, author of many of my favourite books of logic), and "The Book of Five Rings"

For those who want to know more about the realities of "the paranormal" and metaphysics, I couldn't do better than to recommend "The Probability of the Impossible" (one of my daughter's favourite books -- written after the studies done "behind the Iron Curtain" became available in the West, in the 1970s).
Beliefs / Practices
Spiritual but not Religious, Pagan, Witch, Mystic, Shaman, Other Spirituality, Native American Spirituality
Other Beliefs/Practices
I am a student of mythology, folklore, and the beliefs of many different cultures, quite apart from my own interests/beliefs/practises. Likewise, I am a student of varying metaphysical practises, such as the energetic fundamentals underlying acupuncture/acupressure, chi kung, t'ai chi, etc.
Hobbies
My interests include organic gardening, studies including herbalism and other aspects of alternative medicine, earth building techniques, xeriscaping, natural birthing and infant/child care, music creation and appreciation (I sing, play instruments, and write music), jewellery creation, "sheep to shawl" clothing/textile design and creation (spinning, natural dying, weaving, garment design, sewing, embroidery, crochet, knitting, tatting, beading, and more)
Heroes
Karen Silkwood, David Suzuki, Jamie Oliver, others to be added

Kindness. Independent thinking. People who follow their conscience, even when it costs them social ties or inconvenience (or fun). People who choose to debug their own minds and psyches, so that they CAN choose to act by their beliefs, rather than spending their lives reacting to their early life experiences and training, even when those things are no longer going on. People who choose to understand others, and act from love and compassion, even when they are ticked, irritated, or even downright pissed off. Anyone who has not lost their love of learning, and/or works to help others keep or regain it.

Books. Gardening tips. Information that helps make life better, for people and/or for the planet or its other inhabitants. Making things. Cleaning away the unnecessary clutter. Precision of speech or writing, and the clarity of thinking it can help to enable. The sharing of ideas. Voices raised in song together, whether as serious as a ritual invocation, as precise as a chorale performance, as meditative as a group "aum", or as silly as a child's sing-along.

Good tools. Rocks and bits of wood that just "feel right" in the hand. A sunset or dawn full of unimagineable colours, all fading one into another, like a symphony, growing, and changing. The eternal blue of a desert sky at noon. Pictures of astronomical phenomena that remind me that beauty can be found as far as the eye can see, and FAR beyond -- almost anywhere we look (and that, in my opinion, our beauty sense is simply an expression of our ability to detect harmony with natural patterns, and the *rightness* of things).

A child's laugh. A heartfelt guffaw. A tender smile, and a gentle caress. People who understand and speak the language of touch, and use it for good, instead of to manipulate, hurt, or control. A bear hug from a trusted friend.

Feeling at home in my skin, and being around others who feel the same way.

In honour of the Solstice -- a Solstice carol (that works for both hemispheres, in part at least...)

Hi folks!

I thought I'd share a solstice carol with you folks, since I can't actually gather with any of you to celebrate with voices raised in song.

This is one of the many pagan Yule and Solstice carols collected in my Yule Carol Collection. While most of them are heavily seasonal in nature, given that the collection was first put together back when I was a Northern Hemisphere pagan (and seeking to give my brain a les… Continue

lol Well I'm really glad you liked it. I didn't think I'd be getting responses this quickly, and to tell you the truth I really didn't intend to brighten up someones day. I just found this sight online on day when I was working and was like what the heck I'll check it out. Oh and as for my avitar, I just googled the word "wicca" and went to images and that popped up. I really like it. Oh and I sent you a friends request. Thank you so much for your comment. That really made my day.

Hi Willow Firesong,
Thank you for your friendship. We have a lot in common....music, textiles, jewelry. And what you say about science and belief is well put.
