To many people my preferred dress is also considered a costume (in fact have heard the "it's not halloween" bit too many times to recall) so I know how you feel but surely there's always something more you can do. Last year I bought a "queen of flames" dress from a fancy dress shop which I now where when I'm just going out, but that doesn't mean it was less of a costume at the time!
