Uruz is the trial of initiation from one stage of life into the next. It is a stage of becoming. The Vanir are very concentrated on the concept of supporting each other and those who came into their tribe as a kind of collective consciousness in a s…

It looks like the Food Pantry may not be around much longer. :( We can't get any food from the Mid Ohio Food Bank as we are seriously in debt to them and they will not supply us with food until we pay them off and the woman who managed the pantry ra…

So I hold a monthly Rune Study Group in my home... And I plan for it to run 'long' about 3 hours... Generally it does due to interruptions, sidetracking and the like. But last night was like a dream come true. It only ran an hour and a half and we s…

One thing that bothers me is when people make assumptions about me... I went to an Imbolc Rite this weekend which I enjoyed really well with the exception of one thing. There was a man there who kept making the assumption (even after I told him othe…

I am not a person who likes the winter in general, it is cold and I stay indoors as much as possible, but there is one thing that I do like about winter... That one thing is snowball fights. Of course I can never find anyone to get into one with me…

About Me:
I'm a practicing Heathen, writer, non-custodial mother, gydhia, and soap maker. Pretty much a Jane of All Trades mistress of none. I founded my own Kindred,(Kindred of the Nine Worlds) a bit over a year ago and it's small but we like it that way. I run monthly Rune Study and Lore Study groups out of my home. And in my spare time I volunteer at a local food pantry. Somewhere in between all this I try to have a life. Yeah it's all kinds of fun. Don't get the idea from all of this that I'm complaining because I'm not, I like to be busy and having too much downtime means that I'm bored. I have a tendency to get bored very quickly and that leads to being depressed so stimulation is the key to a happy me. I also like to have plenty of creative outlets. I do a lot of stuff on photoshop, and everything you will see on here is some kind of evidence of my work on there... Even if the photo was taken with a camera the likelihood is that it passed through my efforts at some point and I 'played with it'. Why? Because it's fun! I also work in sculpey, which is a form of polymer clay you can bake in your oven. Whether or not someone would consider these efforts worthy is another story. I also like wood, sanding it, carving it, just the feel of it is wonderful to me. I remember doing decoupage with my grandmother when I was younger and I'm going to take on such a project in the near future. I also write, poetry and prose(though I am more prolific in poetry than prose)and I think it is very healing.

Other Beliefs/Practices
I suppose you could say I'm not a Northern Traditionalist Pagan, but I ride close to the current in some ways. I consider myself to be Heathen, but I'm not a complete reconstructionist, I'm closer to a Modernist-Recon, I vary from the more Scandinavian/Germanic elements to Anglo-Saxon elements, mainly because I have found that different aspects seem to ring 'true' to me over the years. I spend a fair amount of time hanging with the Hare Krishnas since the food pantry I work at is run by them and I enjoy their company. About once a month or so I attend services at Krishna house...This includes chanting Hare Krishna and dancing which is a great deal of fun for me. There have been times where I have referred to myself as a Heathen-Krishna. My ex-husband was Native American, and I practiced Native American Spirituality while we were together and still hold on to many of the lessons and many customs from when we were together though it has been over fifteen years ago. I honor that time and honor his spirit since he has passed away.. I have some hold over practices which I think enrich my world greatly. I grew up as a Reformed Jew and still celebrate the Jewish Holidays in modified form. Yes, folks, I'm proud of where I come from and where I'm going. Some might think my practices are slightly eclectic but I couldn't disagree more. I think that giving honor to those whom we come into contact with and spend time with is important, simply not acknowledging others and their contributions is disrespectful. I enjoy the dynamics of being part of the lives of many people and hope they feel the same way where I am concerned as well.

Getting Active Again

So I've really pulled back from the local pagan community here in C-Bus for many years based on the idea that this really is what you would term a 'small town pretending to be a big city', but people come and people go and there has been a lot of growth in C-Bus over the past few years, so I've finally decided to stick my head out of my shell again... There are a lot of meetups and the like going on very close to home and I'm meeting some very worthwhile people and making new friends etc. There… Continue

Adventures With Uverse.

So, we decided to try AT&T Uverse afterall it couldn't hurt right? I mean it's supposed to be really awesome blah blah... Think again folks. Don't do it no matter what you hear, it sucks, really sucks. 24 hours after getting it installed we had to get it pulled. The way they advertised it was false, false, false. So, while I thought, yay I'm going to have better computer access and all the rest... Not so. And, the DVR they supplied was not of viable quality to Time Warner either. Yeah you can… Continue

Been A While

Honestly, my computer is as slow as a snail and it's been a bother to try and use it. So I'm just not very active at the moment. Once things change, (which may be sooner than you think...)I'll be active again. I've also been busy,busy,busy... Of course when is that story going to change? Yeah. We just had the Kindred Ostara Blot which went over very well... We dyed eggs and had a grand time... I made a Pulla which is a Finnish sweet bread with cardamom in it. :D Yum! I'm gearing up to take a vac… Continue

Runes From A Vanic Perspective: Gebo

The Vanir are those most concerned with bringing the harvest to its fullness and thus this rune is intrinsically connected to Them. Those deities connected to Gebo are Freyr, Idunna and Sif. Freyr gives his own life essence back to the earth at Loaf-Fest (also known as Lammas) each year, as the sacrificed God. In the act of being cut down, his blood returning to the earth nourishes it and makes it fertile. The secret being that He is again born in the crop the following year. Thus you get the es… Continue

Runes From A Vanic Perspective: Kenaz

Kenaz is about the fire that consumes one, bringing transformation of the self, bringing you to new consciousness. In that this is the case the deity most associated with Kenaz is Gullveig who was thrice burned. This should come as no surprise.

When one encounters Kenaz often it is not obvious at first, because we are not always very conscious of ourselves a very real sense, we simply define ourselves by how we experience the world around us and this becomes what life is all about. Sad to say,… Continue

I enjoy your "Runes from a Vanic Perspective" series. I've read many sources that say the Anglo-Saxon Futhorc may be more Vanic than the Elder; A-S is indeed what I use, but from an Aesic perspective.

Best wishes of peace and prosperity, health and happiness for the new year. You commented on my mention of Vanatru. I have recently not been very active in any spiritual activities, at least outwardly, though I am always connected to whatever I've encountered that attracts my heart. One connection I feel is to Freyr, and thus to Freya, for they are both separable and inseparable. I wear an Ing rune necklace as I write.
