A Blessed Samhain

October 31, 2013

Tonight and tomorrow is when most modern Pagans celebrate Samhain. Samhain is the start of winter and of the new year in the old Celtic calendar. This is a time when the ancestors are honored, divinations for the new year are performed, and festivals are held in honor of the gods. It is a time of final harvest before…

The Legend:

What was thought to be your typically charming Halloween decoration depicting a lynched woman hanging from a tree, turns out to be a genuine suicide.

The Truth:

In the town of Frederica, Delaware, a 42-year-old woman, perhaps distraught by the fact that she lived in Delaware, hung herself from a tree near a busy road on a Tuesday night. The body managed to hang there until the next day and was viewed by…

Hang on! For the next 3 days, a series of CMEs (coronal mass ejections) are sweeping past us, smacking the Earth's magnetic field around. This Solar Pole Flip is in full swing, Crystal Hottie.

Most are very sensitive to this energy. Are you? Some people are actually energized by it...not me though. Sheesh. This activity…

THE SMELL OF FAIRIES

Feeling greatly amused with my old friend’s stories, I asked him if he was convinced he had seen fairies dancing on the hillside, when he made answer, "Yes, indeed, I am certain of that, and I have smelt fairies too." On my asking what they smelt like, Tommy replied, "Like the mist off the sea, or the droppings from a…

Sacred Symbols – The World Tree

“The symbol of a sacred tree is a universal one in many of the world’s religions and myths.

Pauline Long at the first Sophia Fellowship Feminist Theology Conference in 1996 stated: ‘Through varying centuries and times, the Tree of Life has been a symbol both of this  and the Divine. It represents the theme of rebirth, along with the…

Interesting crystal experience and something weird

Yesterday I got a tattoo of a bear print on my ankle. Long story short for the reason behind it is I found one of my spirit guides is a brown mama bear, and she gave me the courage not to hide who I am anymore. This is my third tattoo, but it is the first to have any meaning behind it, and the first in color. I don't know if either of those points has anything to do with my experience this time around, but this tattoo isn't as fun as i was wanting it to be. My other tattoos gave me no…

MACHA MÓRRÍGU

MACHA MÓRRÍGU was the all-devouring great queen of the Irish gods. Outrunning and swallowing up her foes, she symbolised the ravenous vehemence that nourishes victory with the rich pickings of the vanquished. Associated with rainstorms and crows, she may once have been held manifest in engulfing rivers and dark rainclouds in their role as…

Mystical Nature - The Death's Head Moth

Acherontia lachesis is a large (up to 13 cm wingspan) Sphingid moth found in India and much of the Oriental region, one of the three species of Death's-head Hawkmoth, also known as the Bee Robber.

It is nocturnal, and very fond of honey; they can mimic the scent of honey  so that they can enter a hive unharmed to get honey.

Their tongue,…

Mystical Nature - Frost Flowers

It is as beautiful as it is rare. A frost  is created on autumn or early winter mornings when ice in extremely thin layers is pushed out from the stems of plants or occasionally wood. This extrusion creates wonderful patterns which curl and fold into gorgeous frozen petioles giving this phenomenon both its name and its appearance.

Conditions have…

'Cailleach' by Richard de Graeme:

'Cailleach' by Richard de Graeme:

Winter howls and wind does moan

With Cailleach’s  frost is sown.

The Blue Hag  the ground in grief.

Her youth has fallen like the leaf.

Line of face and frozen breast,

No warmth, no milk to suckle the rest.

With this loss the tempests rage.

Creatures crawl from shallow…

The Disappointment

'Am I what you wanted, Mother?

A shining daughter of the meadow’s delight?

I fear not, for I am a mass of scars,

A tiny boneyard rattling the wretched night.

I am sorry to disappoint, fair one

I am not what you had hoped.

No sweet songs of childish innocence

Escape this strangled throat.

I was never…

I consider Thee, Sister Moon

I consider Thee, Sister Moon

Pale and sharp in the ragged dark

And in the silken milk of night

Your cool light tames that burning Star.

I consider Thee, Sister Moon

Hanging by a silver thread

 of stars singing lullabies

As You put Mankind to bed.

I consider Thee, Sister Moon

Controlling the World with gentle…

Happy birthday, Jonas Salk!

Dr. Salk was born in New York City and attended the NYU  of Medicine. In 1948, he began his polio research, and the next seven years were spent in development of the vaccine. The field trials of the vaccine were a resounding success, thanks to the help of so many individuals. In order to inoculate 1,800,000 children, it required the assistance of…
