The title is similar to a quote I recently read in Dan Brown's latest novel, "The Lost Symbol."
I love to read and think that a book is a wonderful gift, not only for others, but to self for it is a time to create within the great mind.
Writing a story, beginning to end, is an exciting adventure and often at times, cathartic as it was for me. I wrote a novel,
The Skye in June. It's a tale about a young Scottish Catholic girl, June MacDonald, who struggles to for accepted by her parents a…

I am a Witch, I am not Wiccan. Now, what I am about to write about is not intended to insult or put down Wiccans in general; but to educate those who believe that Wicca is the only true path of Pagans. I don’t follow the Wiccan Rede, for I am not Wiccan. As a Witch, I follow the Olde Ways; as a Pagan, my deities are of the Ancient Greek Pantheon; the Wiccan Rede did not exist in ancient times, nor was it a concept in general. Not all Witches are Wiccan; they follow whatever path feels true to th…

I am inspired to be more "out of the closet" as a witch today. And not just because I'm going to see "Wicked" in San Francisco with my beloved son, but because it's an important day for good luck for me. I make it so. For one thing, my first book event was on Friday the 13th (in my month of birth too.) Friday and the number 13th has, to many, held many superstitious beliefs and negative connotations attached to both in Christian and pagan history. And for me as a Rosicrucian, the day has a power…

ok, it is my understanding that to be Pagan is one thing, but to be Wiccan is a higher level. Solid teachings of the craft for no less than a year and a day, and I too can be on my way to being a full fledged Wiccan.
But where do I start? This whole solitary thing leaves me in the dark a lot. Am i doing this right?
So I bought this book called, Wicca: A year and a day, and it basically goes step by step, and day by day through the teachings of Wicca. Each day is broken down so that, if done co…

Now for those of you who are new, and have never encountered persons calling themselves pagans, witches, goddess-worshippers, here's how to tell us apart--with a healthy bit of tongue in one's cheek.
Is this the first time you've seen this many pagans together? Well, you're in for a deflowering, young earth-worshipper, and you've come to the right place. However, you should realize that there are many, many types of pagans. In the old day's, we old farts just had to keep making the rounds until…

HUMOR-How To Become A Witch In Nine Easy Lessons
In the 1980's it was fashionable to be interested in the New Age. This is now a dreadful faux pas within the alternative scene, and in order to be accepted in the 1990's metaphysical social set, one must have an interest in Witchcraft or Paganism. Of course, you don't have to actually belong to a coven in order to be thought of as a Witch, you can bluff your way into being accepted as a fully fledged Witch simply by knowing a few terms and…

Your neighbor just might be a witch if....
When you pop next door for a chat, the kettle is always already on... Or as my great grandmother (Mal) used to say it's time to put the big & little kettle on... (at seven was puzzled a bit on how she always knew it was time) but as time went on the answer came clear more so...
You sometimes hear the sound of music, singing, dancing through the wall but if you look out of the window, it's usually a full moon.
You catch him/her washing a crys…

I found this awesome piece of software for Macintosh, SpellbookMaster. It's actually for D&D users, but I found it useful for storing spells and Magickal recipes digitally.

Familiar -An animal [either mortal or on the astral plane], which enhances a Witches magical workings. Familiars are also attributed to do tasks
for Witches, but I don't know many familiars who do anything besides help out with raising energy during a rite. Traditionally, cats were most commonly associated as being a Witches familiar, which is why cats were often seen as bad luck in Europe around the early 1800s [massive slaughters of cats around that time led to a rise in the rat population whi…

I am a Witch because I have always been thirsting for something more... and have dedicated myself to a path that encompasses not only the gods, the elements, and so on... but a commitment to self-examination and personal growth. "I am willing to suffer to learn." I am not currently oath-bound to any group, tradition, or path, but if I tarry too long, dragging my heels in a part of my life where I should be in movement, I feel it exponentially... as if once we are aware we are taken to task all t…

I've seen several related questions come across on forums and by email lately, and to take a stab at paraphrasing all of them:
"I read one book that described a Wiccan self-initiation ritual. But I saw a huge forum discussion where folks said a real and valid initiation can only happen in a coven, by a high priestess. I want to become Wiccan. But I'm not a member of a coven, and I don't think there are any here in outer Mongolia. Am I just screwed? Is it impossible for me to learn and practi…

When you're first getting started in the Pagan community, there are a few things that will really help you get started and understand what's going on. And one of the first things to do is take a little time to educate yourself about what's what and who's who.
There is a lot of jargon and terminology thrown around in this culture, and it can be overwhelming at first – it can seem like we're all speaking a different language. (And to confuse the issue even further, not everyone will use these ter…
