The Memory of Trees

It stands to reason that, being a Druid, I often look to trees as a source of wisdom and knowledge about life, the universe...and everything. Needless to say I was surprised to find this tidbit posted on one of the departmental web pages at my office. And to think, I work at the local power utility company here! Magic will happen whenever and wherever it will.

We ask the leaf, “Are you complete in yourself ?”

The leaf answers, “No, my life is in the… Continue

The Dying Art

I know many of the folks who post to this site never had a day of typing training. I understand it is called "keyboarding" now. This "renaming" comes as no surprise. I write this not as a criticism of those who have trouble typing or lacked the training. I also understand no matter how skilled one might be at the art of typing, one can be prone to typing errors, and I am willing to accept those; most often more accepting of them from others than I am from myself. If one can assume, however, a… Continue

The Season IS the Reason

With all due respect to my Christian friends, I have to admit I take offense when they want to brag about Jesus being the "reason for the season." If they would indulge me for a moment, I would ask them to close their eyes and follow me as I take them on a little inward journey.

Imagine you are a person living in ancient times, just beginning to understand a bit about the strange world in which you find yourself. You have noticed the great shining one in the sky is a benevolent… Continue

Displaced clans & displaced tribes

I am a great fan of Thistle and Shamrock on NPR. I discovered Celtic music when I was in college, and went to college where the local NPR station was broadcast. It even originated out of Charlotte, NC, at the time. This is why most Sunday evenings at 7:00 PM local time, if I am near a radio, then I listing to the melodic brogue of Fionna Ricthie now speaking to us from Edinburgh.

Tonight, after playing a tune that combined the languages of Cherokee and Scots Gaelic, she reminded us… Continue

The Monstrosity of Racism

Despite having grown up in the South and living here all my life, I try to comfort myself with the idea that I am, for the most part, not very racist. I know my choices for the Pagan paths which I follow are governed by my ancestry. I recognize many of us have looked to ethnicity and ancestry to make this determination. But truth be known, I have not looked down my nose at persons who have no nothern European ancestry at all, whatsoever, who choose to espouse Druidry. Without the organized… Continue

Pagan Babies

OK...I attended my first Pagan Pride Festival this past weekend in Raleigh, NC. I had a wonderful time, and met some of the most delightful people. As someone who has practiced as a solitary so far, it was very good to connect with other Pagans from the area, and start to develop a sense of "community" with others. My oracles have been guiding me in this direction. Additionally, I had been developing a sense of something missing without being connected to community. I am signed up for a couple… Continue
