I had an awful day at work yesterday, but while I slept I received an Editor's Choice Award for my latest article, "Canoeing, Kayaking on Turkey Creek in Niceville, FL
." This is my second award, the first having been on "Canoeing Florida's Econfina Creek
." I hope this means that today's going to be a better day.

Ever since the water warmed up I've had my kayak out just about every weekend paddling down different creeks. Kayaking is a great way to get out and experience nature at its absolute best, allowing you to float into another world removed from civilization. Here in the Florida panhandle it's not uncommon to have an osprey glide overhead or to be just mere feet from a green heron. The quieter you are, the better your chances to float past basking turtles or a spot other wildlife coming down to… Continue

Just got back from vacation and uploaded the pictures here
. We did some gem mining, visited one of the local gem & mineral museums, and hiked a 15 mile section of the Appalachian Trail from North Carolina into Georgia (Deep Gap to Dick's Creek). I plan to use some of the photos for an upcoming project and will post more on that later. Grueling hike that was well worth the experience.

Kodiak passed over to the other side about 9 a.m. this morning. It's been a rough few days since his cancer diagnosis. He will be deeply missed.

I've been "officially" moving this week. I've been staying with my boyfriend for months, so it only made sense that when the lease on my apartment came up for renewal at the end of this month, that I might as well make the shift. I've put a lot of things into storage, donated a lot to charity, and then, of course, moved some things to where I'll be living now. And those that know me also know that means moving my colony of tree frogs.
I set up one fountain and one cascading waterfall… Continue

I was contacted by a new magazine (spiritually oriented) earlier in the week about the possibility of writing for them, and great news! I'm on board for the launch. Yippee!

Now that I finally managed to work my way up to a Feature Writer position over at Suite101, I'm going to start putting more articles in the Paganism and Wicca Topic. This week my article is on making your own magical tools
. There's a word limit that I had to stay under, or I would have added more details. Perhaps that will be in my follow-up article.
The wand and stave in the article… Continue

I know a lot of my friends like to write, so I thought I would share this with you. My fellow writers over at Suite101 hooked me up with some more writing gigs that pay to write, and so I, in turn, am going to put it out there for anyone else who wants to try their hand at getting paid to write. Just cut & paste the referral link into the browser and it will take you to the new website that I'm writing for. What I like about this one is that there are no quotas and no deadlines. Write at… Continue

Moving up in the world.

There is much to be learned from silence. Silence can unsettle a foe; A foe cannot anticipate your next move, thereby only being able to guess and speculate upon the outcome. --pnerissa

Choosing to hold one's tongue in silence when there is much truth to divulge can be a comfort and a curse. --pnerissa

This is Tigger. My boyfriend and I regularly foster rescue dogs, and Tigger came home with us last night. Her story is a bit sad, and I think it needs a happy ending.
Tigger aka "Triumph" was born in a shelter and has known no other life besides that of the shelter. Her mom was a brindle boxer; dad was a traveling salesman. While at the shelter, a dog (perhaps more than one) in an adjoining cage managed to grab Tigger's right front… Continue

I woke up a year older this morning. Well, technically it doesn't arrive until 10:36 p.m. this evening, but I haven't found a way to stop time yet, so I expect its coming.
Anyway, the big 4-0. Surprisingly, there wasn't a transformation involving spontaneous wrinkles or all my hair changing to gray. LOL. And my Wii Fit just told me that my Wii Fit age is 27. I'll take 27 over 40. Heck, I may go cycling later or drop my kayak in the bay and paddle after the dolphins. I already did a… Continue

My boyfriend just got the Wii and Wii Fit for us, and this little game is addictive. So much so that after nursing a severe sinus infection for two weeks, when I found I was unable to play for very long the first night we had it, I finally took my butt to the doctor the next day so I could get some medicine to clear up my infection so I can BREATHE and play more. LOL. Yes, this girl has priorities.
But if anyone's been thinking about it and was still on the fence, I'd say Yes, go… Continue

During my recent hiking trip on a portion of the Appalachian Trail in northern Georgia, pics are here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/nerispace/sets/72157607490964349/ I had time to immerse myself in the different aspects of nature. It was a wonderful experience that also got me wondering... with all the pagans that represent themselves as nature lovers, friend of nature, etc., why aren't more of them out there actually experiencing it? I know so many pagans that spend their days sitting on the… Continue

I suppose that's better than playing in
Since two of my close friends died back in June, I've been lying low and licking my wounds. So after six weeks or so I finally got back to my writing and also my new hobby of photography, and I'm happy to say that I've received requests to use three of my most recent pictures. Who knew?
It is true what they say... when you finally stop looking for love, love finds you. The trick is, that you literally have to stop.… Continue

We all know I love frogs. However, nothing can quite prepare you for the shock of a cold, wet, solid "SMACK" as you're putting up a shed and one leaps unannounced onto your face. Yes, the fearless frog Princess screamed, and then scolded her new tiny minion.
On the plus side, the more frogs I have, the fewer spiders. :-)
