Can Anyone Offer an Explanation for Such Bizarre Behaviour?

Several years ago I attended an open circle here in the city. The group that ran these circles asked that people bring food for the feast after the ritual, and not having much time, I bought a Raspberry-Almond Tart at my local grocery store. It was easy, convenient, and I knew it would be quite delicious. Also attending this ritual was R_______. I first met R________ seven years ago at a September 11th memorial, and she basically hated me on sight, with her antipathy increasing over time. To be… Continue

Lessons from Dilbert - Humour (sort of)

Today's Dilbert cartoon can easily be applied to the Pagan community that I in. I am not saying that all Pagan communities are like this one (I certainly hope not), but I could also compare it to workplaces I've been in too. Make of it what you will. The cartoon features Dilbert in the boardroom, explaining how a project plan will work. He is the person speaking in all panels but the last, but I will number the panels and make parellels to the local Pagan community. 1) Dilbert says: "Ou… Continue

The Use of My Words

I'm rather annoyed right now. Yesterday I got an e-mail in connection with my website. It was a positive one, from someone thanking me for posting all of the information on the site, and praising the Youtube video. I don't have a Youtube video. I haven't the slightest idea how to create one, nor am I particuarly inclined to learn how. I wrote back, thanking the person for their e-mail, and I asked them to send me the URL for the video, and… Continue

A Book Burning! Everyone LOVES a bonfire, right?

A couple of years ago I went to a planning meeting for Pagan Pride. As I'm sure everyone here knows, one of the reasons to hold Pagan Pride is to foster good relations between Pagans and non-Pagans. The idea is that we show non-Pagans what it is we really do, and hopefully dispel the notion that we are scary freaks who sacrifice babies. At this meeting we were discussing possible activities that could be held at the next Pagan Pride, and some of the suggestions were quite good – various games f… Continue

Teacher Fired for Branding Students with Crosses

I just read this a few minutes ago in the newspaper: An Ohio school board has voted to fire a science teacher accused of burning the image of a Christian Cross into his student’s arms. The Mount Vernon board passed a resolution yesterday to end the contract of middle school teacher John Freshwater. He is accused of preaching his Christian beliefs in class and teaching creationism. A family says a cross burned into one child’s arm remained for weeks. Does anyone else see what I see? Th… Continue

Tales of the Bunny Coven

. . . and a hard lesson learned. I swear the following is the absolute truth - I wouldn't believe it myself if I hadn't experienced it. Several years ago a (now ex) friend and I decided to start our own Pagan group for ritual purposes. We recruited two people initially, and we all took turns leading eclectic rituals about every three weeks. Everything worked smoothly for a while, but then the two people we had recruited got obsessed with bunny rabbits. Yes, you read that correctly. They wante… Continue

"Tradition" Getting in the Way?

The city where I live holds Pagan Pride in a large public park in the late summer. Unfortunately those organizing it are really into the excuse of “Pagan Standard Time” and as a result everything they try to do always starts late and then gets steadily worse. In long events like Pagan Pride, the whole schedule gets thrown off by two hours or more. Knowing what the problem was, I joined the committee a few years ago, hoping to get them more motivated and organized - but they just weren’t having… Continue
