Once upon a time, there was a rebellious sparrow who decided not to fly south for the winter. However, soon the weather turned so cold that he reluctantly started to fly south. In a short time ice began to form on his wings and he fell to earth in a barnyard, almost frozen. A cow passed by and crapped on the sparrow. The sparrow thought "This surely is the End.". The manure warmed him and defrosted his wings. Warm and happy, able to breathe, he began to sing. Just then a large cat came by and, h…

My hike was today ....interesting. It was in an area that I'd never been to before. While I was out there the scenery changed from deciduous forest to cedar/juniper. Whenever that happens I know that there is a swamp nearby. Or at least wetlands of some sort. I decided I'd go check it out.
The sun was shining through the foliage and the coniferous area ahead of me seemed dark and foreboding. There was an odd chill to the air emanating from the denseness of the cedars.
I was standing on the edg…

The Pentagram and the Hammer
Devyn Gillette and Lewis Stead
The following article is based on the workshop "Wicca and Ásatrú", which was presented by the writers during the 1994 FreeSpirit Festival. Devyn Gillette is a English Traditional Wiccan, and former host of the Pagan radio show "Between the Worlds." Lewis Stead is an Asatruar who edits Asatru Today.
For a considerable amount of time, Ásatrúar have tirelessly debated where they, as a unique sect within Pagandom, relate (or fail to relat…

There is one topic ,that I will say I know an awful lot about, going about in various threads. I refused to believe it, turned a blind eye to it maybe? This place if chock full of assholes that love to rant about their wisdom pertaining to things they do not know.
Reminds me a lot of zealous xtianity.
If I said that "I know witchcraft is evil because I've been to one circle."
what would that portray? Pompous assininity...........
Sadly, when it comes to the topic of addiction, people have bee…

Woden's Namboc
Óðinn is a God whose depth and complexity are reflected in the multitude of names, titles, and descriptive kennings for Him that have survived from ancient times. He is far from merely being a God of battle, though unfortunately there are some who call themselves Heathens…

Lady of Love and Life
It is midnight in the far North of the world. The sun has gone down, but a gentle twilight still glows in the sky. You are dancing with your people around a bonfire. Music lifts your feet and your hearts-- a birch bark flute is lilting merrily, supported by the quick tap tap of a drum. When the musi…

A Translation of the Old English Rune Poem by Swain Wodening Canote
(Note: This translation is Common Domain, and may be distributed freely, as long as it is properly attributed to its translator, Swain Wodening Canote or Berry Canote)

This is a bit of a rant.
I can understand equality and tolerance. Both are wonderful things and are to be striven toward. What I can't understand is the overwhelming need of many people to be 'politically correct' in everything they say and do.
You, the reader of this blog/rant....Do you often keep your mouth shut for fear of offending someone? Are you "tolerant" ,in words, for things you find abhorrent and morally distasteful but, in action, you do nothing? Do you privately laugh at crass jok…

The Havamal or the High Sayings of Har is considered to be one of the quintessential repositories of Heathen wisdom.
I have posted it so that all wishing to do so may learn from it's words.
Several translations exist. Some are quite heady in their wording and I find this translation to be a good starting point for those not familiar with this text. The Lee M. Hollander translation is my personal favorite and some of the verses take on a different meaning in his work. I encourage all who are so…

For the past week or so I've been at odds with myself. Anxiety about financial problems, family trifles and emotional loneliness seemed to be getting the better of me. Add to that a fair amount of resentment and anger about situations that are comepletely out of my control and you have one miserable crank of a man.
I woke up this morning in an angry mood. Spilling my coffee all over myself before I even took a sip didn't help at all.
I decided that I'd become out of touch with myself and the wo…

I went to a Sierra Club meeting here in Central NJ and damn was it an experience. Maybe my expectations were too high but I truly thought that the people I'd meet would be a bit less stuffy. The room was filled with senior citizens who tried to outdo each other with what they said. Every person that raised their hand and spoke sounded, in my oppinion, like a pompous ass.
One topic was about the needless oil drilling that is planned all around the US. It's extremely simple math. We have 3% of the…
