All Beliefs are Welcome Here!

The only dog I have had as a pet in my whole life is a black dog. It was 44 years ago in Killeen, Texas. I was walking home and passed an old woman’s house. She was an eccentric, strange old woman that lived by herself in a dilapidated wooden house. In her yard she had a small cage with a black dog locked in it. The hot Texas summer sun was beating down on the black dog in the small cage who had no shade, water, or food. The cage was so small that the dog could barely move.

Thinking to myself, “This is too crazy,” I asked the old lady how much money she wanted for the dog. There wasn’t a for sale sign on the cage, but I knew the old lady needed money. She said, “20 dollars.” I gave her twenty dollars and she let the dog out of the cage. It followed me home.

This morning I went out to get dirt for a sink hole in my yard I have been slowly filling. The hole is slowly growing, and I am slowly filling. That is the way I work now-a-days, slowly pushing ahead in patience and determination. I put some five-gallon buckets in my vehicle and grabbed a shovel then drove to the place where I collect dirt.

Upon arriving I parked my car close-by then grabbed my shovel and one five-gallon bucket. The dirt gets heavy and I can only carry one bucket of dirt at a time. It is a short walk, but I must pace myself.

As I’m walking to the dirt collection place, a young man with long-black hair and a long-black beard came strolling along with two big black dogs. He assured me the dogs would not attack and the dogs started smelling my shovel, bucket, and myself. I commented, “They look like twins.” One dog had a large silver chain around its neck and the other dog had a black collar. We all went our separate ways.

As I’m carrying my first bucket of dirt back to my vehicle, another man with a pair of big black dogs came strolling along. This was a white man with graying hair and a graying beard. His dogs had no interest in me, and the man said nothing. His dogs both wore black collars. This all seemed rather strange to me on a cold-gray winters day.

What do we have here? Twin dogs with each man, two pairs of black dogs, two men of different times. Twins, two, old man, young man, and black dogs, lots of symbology to work with this morning.

In some Rider-Waite style tarot decks, the Moon card has two dogs, or a dog and a wolf. Moon being seen mostly at night, the black dog difficult to see at night, a new Moon night especially, characterize the fear of the natural mind of darkness.

Two is the number of dualities, conflict, ying and yang, good and bad, life and death. It characterizes our life on Earth.

Young man and old man, the beginning and end, engaged and not engaged, things have gone full circle. There is a time for everything.

In many cultures the black dog symbolizes coming death or death itself.

Cool.

I know my first thoughts that popped in my head is, Hecate. She has an interesting story you could add inside the story dream you’re putting together.
