Thought of the Week:
If all our misfortunes were laid in one common heap, whence everyone must take an equal portion, most people would be content to take their own and depart.
Article for the Week:
How to Choose the Right Elixir for Holistic Healing
by Lillie Ruby
Determining what flower or gem elixir to use in holistic healing work isn't difficult if you break down your goals into behavioral patterns and personal characteristics. Use self-observation, intuition and common sense.
How do you respond to people in your environment? Are your reactions different at work than at home? What would you like to change or enhance about yourself? Even if you want a new job, break it down into parts to see why you really want a new job. Are you bored or are you overextended? Is a failed office romance or a long commute involved? The more discriminating you are and the more honest you are with yourself, the easier it will be to choose the right elixir.
Basically, there are two methods for determining the elixir you should be using. One is a rational approach that examines the traditional uses. The other is to use your intuition to determine what is right for you at this time. Of course, the best would be a third approach that combines these two.
Beyond self-analyzing, look at the patterns in your life. What things do you repeat? Do you date or marry the same type of personality? Do you blow every bonus on flashy toys instead of paying bills? How do you react to the people in your life? Do you still have childish tantrums when you don't get your way? Again, be honest.
After you have taken the time to break down what you really want to change in your life or about yourself, turn that into another list. What seems urgent? Assign importance numerically as you weigh these elements against each other, for something that at first seems to be an urgent ten may only be a five when measured against nine other items on the list.
Another way to determine which elixir to use is radiesthesia, which is a big word that means dowsing. There are a number of ways to dowse. You can use a pendulum, dowsing rods, body dowsing, or even willow branches. Radiesthesia is divining what we need from the higher consciousness. For this method to work, you must let go of the results. One way to do this is to simply repeat, I wonder what the answer is over and over until you get the answer. This takes your rational, controlling brain out of the picture so that you get the right answer, not the answer you would like to have.
If you decide to use dowsing, determine in advance how your tool will provide yes, no and maybe answers. If you want to go a step further, create a chart and then place the elixir in the center and dowse the answer.
After yes, no or maybe, dowse for time and length. Should I take this elixir right now? Should I take it after meals? Is one dose enough or should I take it for 90 days? Elixirs are vibratory medicine, so think of every question you might have about a prescription a doctor might write you, and apply those questions to determining how to best take your elixir.
You can also rely on the research of others. Dr. Edward Bach spent years developing a standardized system for flower elixirs, and Melody created a hefty book that can serve as a reference for gem elixirs. Each of these researchers has gone before you and made the process of choosing an elixir much easier.
Determining what elixir to add your health regime isn't difficult, but it may take some time. As you get to know yourself at a deeper level, you will find it gets easier, not to mentally choose but to KNOW the proper elixir for your personal use.
