Celebrity: Why I don't care...

I don’t care about celebrities, they are just the focal images on magazines, and the topic of public gossip.  I favor their acting abilities over who they are as people, because you know what?  We don’t know shit about who they really are under all that celebrity hype.  What I can say is that people are people, and celebs are people too.  

I prefer to talk about the issues,  not the people at the center of the issues.  In a recent ‘trending’ of public hysterics, the self-righteous are at it again deciding what is morally right and wrong for our modern society.  When celebrities are at the center of scandal it’s as if these people are icons to be worshiped as gods.  I don’t understand people worship.  What I do understand, is how  people may look up to a mentor or a person they find inspiring.  Worship is an entirely different matter that I find disturbing.

In a recent article I read using the ‘slut shaming’ tactic to completely annihilate a person’s character in the public eye.  This has more to do with the public than it does the person being ‘shamed’ and often times shunned.

“I might not be concerned for K-Stew, but I am concerned for my younger stepsister who has pictures of Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson on her walls, who idolizes and worships them, and who might grow up to hate Kristen Stewart for reasons she doesn’t understand. I’m worried she will be taught that it’s not okay to mess up, learn from it and apologize, because no one wants your apology, just your suffering on camera.”

In my own mind, I’m wondering why it’s even healthy for a young child to have posters of their idols on their walls.  Don’t get me wrong, when I was a kid I had my bedroom plastered in Michael Jackson.  I thought he was an amazing singer, dancer and performer and when I was taking dance classes I wanted to be as great, if not exceed his talents.  I found him inspiring. This was back when MJ was a Black Man.  By the time he began bleaching his skin and trying to become some weird faux-European, all those posters came down.

In my own mind it was unacceptable to become someone else, when you could just polish up who you are.  This was before I came to understand that MJ had identity issues and was constantly stalked by the media for the latest greatest scandal.  As a child, you don’t really understand what these people endure as ‘celebrity’.  They have become dehumanized by the glitz and glam of magazine covers.  They are shiny objects that attract the magpie…and it just is.  Or is it?  What does that say about our nature?  What we are as people?  Who teaches us these values anyway and why?  What is it all for at the end of the day?

People are so easily swayed, manipulated and managed by the ‘society’ they support with their slave morality.  

Case in point, when President Bill Clinton was on the chopping block for being too much of a ‘people’s president’, the moral right was the loudest in demanding he be impeached.  All because he lied.  Lied about his own personal business turned into a scandal.   “I did not have sexual relations with that woman!”  All in the nature of saving face in the public.  

You know damn well he wanted to get on the mic and say:  ”This country needs an enema!”

Is a blow job in the Oval office a reason to remove the president from his position?  Not to mention, Clinton was among the few who have been in office that were making real progress and with demonstrable results, especially in our economic status.

I couldn’t care less if he’s getting a Nooner, so long as the decisions being made for this country are in the best interest of the country i.e. its citizens.  Equally, I couldn’t care less if Kristen had gang-bangs every Tuesday before her hair and nail appointment, so long as she performs to the best of her abilities on screen.  I don’t pay movie ticket prices to judge the actors private lives, I pay to see a story come to life through their abilities to act with skills that take my mind on a journey.  It’s an art form, not Sunday School.

The ‘celebrity’ comes afterwards, doesn’t it?  I mean who the hell knew who this girl was until she was on the silver screen?  Who the hell knew who Bill Clinton was until he ran for office?

Don’t get me started on the idea of ‘Celebrity Satanists’, it makes me go:WTF? What makes them celebrities?  I’m guessing because their names are known from media attention, or notoriety in publications.  The minute it’s even suggested that I’m one of these celebrities, I say: STOP.  Who the fuck am I that I have celebrity?  When people say: “OH Sin Jones you should write a book!”  I laugh.  Again I ask:  Who the fuck am I that I should publish a book or have my own Wikipedia page…You people are ridiculous.   Stop trying to make me a celebrity. I’m not.  I don’t want to be your celebrity, idol or be at the center of your worship.

I don’t care about celebrities, so why would I care to become one?  I market myself, sure but that’s to gain exposure for my writing and visual media all of which is FREE content.  This is a hobby to me, it’s not my livelihood. Cults of personality can get out of hand. It doesn’t stop the crowds of people that will often use the slut shame tactic to defame my person.  I can tell you why it doesn’t work, and it’s no secret I’m revealing either.  Calling me a slut, is just a demonstration of YOUR mindset, your morality and ethics and has nothing at all to do with me, or who I am as a person.  Those tactics tell me volumes about YOU and I’ll use it to my advantage, and often against you for having the gall to take me on. 

In my opinion, parents should step up to the plate and teach their children valuable lessons about what it means to be a person in a modern world.  Notions of celebrity are all around us, and how the individual deals with that is reliant on their influences, the pressures applied to their being, and what affect that will have on growing as a person.

I can’t say I had any real valuable guidance as a child.  Those lessons were better learned on my own. When you aren’t getting what you need, if you want it bad enough you’ll get it for yourself.  My quest for learning was always for me and my benefit.  Some lessons come later than others, but the point is… I learn them.  If I had learned the notion of celebrity as a child maybe I wouldn’t have had all those MJ posters up in the first place.  Maybe I wouldn’t have torn them down, believing that Michael Jackson owed me something.

I observe, digest and then think of ways to address the issues.  In the case of the ‘buzz’ about K-Stew and her affair, I’m asking the question: Why do you care?  Why do you worship celebrities?  What role do you play in making them?

Why does the populace believe she owes them something?  An explanation for her affair.  A public apology for her actions, and even a complete surrender when she’s cut from the cast so the producers can keep the scandal away from their own projects.  

It’s all Shame! Shame! Shame!

You know who should be ashamed of themselves?  Those that create celebrity.

A celebrity is a person who has a prominent profile and commands a great degree of public fascination and influence in day-to-day media. The term is synonymous with wealth (commonly denoted as a person with fame and fortune), implied with great popular appeal, prominence in a particular field, and is easily recognized by the general public.

What was it about that Occupy Movement again?  Oh that’s right.  The 99% were pissing and crying for giving the 1% their money thereby increasing their wealth and making them fascinating.
