The bit of dialog below is the closest anyone has ever come to describing my view of fate or wyrd, and it has the additional advantage of being funny.
Londo: "Vir, do you believe in fate?"
Vir: "Well, actually, I believe there are currents in the Universe. Eddies and tides that pull us one way or the other. Some we have to fight, some we have to embrace. Unfortunately, the currents that we have to fight look exactly like the currents we have to embrace. The currents that we think are the one that's gonna make us stronger, they are the ones that are going to destroy us. And, the ones that we think are going to destroy us, they are the ones that are going to make us stronger. Now, the other current..."
Lond: “Vir! Yes, or no!”
Vir: “Yes — no — somewhat. Why?”

I have it on good evidence that the universe — maybe the multiverse — is 99.99% spirit with a thin frosting of matter on top. A better description might be that we’re living in a relatively small bubble of matter floating deep in a sea of spirit. To know where you’re going, it’s good to be mindful of the currents, particularly the ones welling up from the deep. "As above so below," is directionally relative.
One additional caveat. Experiments conducted by J. B. Rhine and associates strongly suggested that outside the matter bubble time and distance do not mean much, so when dealing with “outside” currents, temporal retrojection is a distinct possibility.Though unproven, some currents may be moving from the future to the past.
