I noted some arguments in some of the discussions relating to Satanists and I know I have added my two-cents on this topic a few times over the years but I guess it's time to restate and add to some things. If I had the time today I would gladly jump into a couple of topics but I don't want to do a hit and run in the discussions, so a blog is likely the better route...lol :)
Anyway, it seems that some are taken aback at Satanists calling themselves Pagan or Satanists being on the site...Yada, Yada, Yada and such but here's my response to the anti-satanist thoughts and basically the use of the KJV of the Bible as an arguing point ~ that Satanist' worship the devil etc and are not Pagan etc.
Here's my thoughts, however ignorant they may seem to some...lol
I believe that what some fail to note is that whether they like it or not, many Christians (not by far all, things are changing) and the Bible basically relates those who fall outside of the Christian faith are following > Satan. (ie: Basically, either you are a Christian or you are not). Now, before that is taken out of context; not all Christians follow this thinking but if someone is going to lay merit on terminology and wording found in the King James Version of the Bible then you should look at all and not just the portion which fits the argument. In other words, to many Christians Pagans are and will always be Satanists whether Pagans etc. believe in the concept of Satan as an entity or as The Adversary or not (see my above ie:)
I have no qualms with Satanist's or Christians or any other belief form being on this site and in truth, if that decision bothers anyone to the point of aggravation, anger or whatever negative form it may bring > then always remember that people are on this site by choice and not because they are required to be.
On another note, Witch is also a word portrayed negatively by the Bible (KJV) but yet, that does not mean that we are worshiping or in league with the Christian devil just because it infers that; so if we are to assume that we should throw out certain terms or disassociate terms which could make us sound bad because of Biblical arguments then that standard should be held all the way - which unfortunately would squash out most terms we all use to describe our beliefs.
To sum this up, Satan as a title (The Adversary) or an entity is only a word, a word which carries differing meanings Dependant on who you ask or what you reference. To denounce Satanists, Heathens or any other belief system that some may feel is not socially acceptable enough for the word Paganism (don't get me started on the debate about the meaning of that word...lol) is IMO absurd because in using the Bible as a source reference it appears they are basically laying claim to the validity of the existence of Satan but also that the Pagan Gods were also devils, as they & their followers (Pagans) & any other belief system outside of Christianity were considered by many the Adversary of the Christian Church - IE: Satanist.
OK I'm done; I just thought I should blog my thoughts, however confusing they may sound...lol

Comment by 3DDY on December 16, 2010 at 5:36am ...and this is a site that is supposedly open to discussion and all point of views. Considering that the Biblical interpretation of Satan is more widely recognized and accepted, it is only fair to represent their point of view in a discussion, unless this site is only concerned with one sided stories. There is no doubt that the Pagan Religions have wrongly suffered over the delusion from the Biblical religions that they are in league with Satan, but should that notion also be propagated on a site that claims to be a Pagan site as well..or should PaganSpace be seen as bias? Should not all views be represented in order to understand the thinking of others, or should an opinion take over a site to the point of bias and possible wrongful association that may harm the others who are not affiliated with bias misrepresentation?
I see a big problem with religious separation, and I personally do not affiliate or claim any religion that creates biased opinions and harm to the growth of society as family.
Well said!! I have experienced people at both ends of the spectrum and found both groups to be wonderful, likable, kind, and uniquely spiritual in their own ways...From a wonderful group of Satanists in San Antonio, who are the sweetest little ladies you'd ever want to meet-- most are soccer moms. To a witch in Massachusetts who follows a very eclectic path. She said, "If I feel the need to go into a church and pray-- I will." When she discovered that her daughter has a brain tumor, she told me that she called every church and synogogue in their community to pray for her, as well as her coven and other pagan groups that she was affiliated with. She summed it up-- prayers/healing spells are all positive energy and it doesn't matter where the energy comes from. The key word, in all of this, I believe is..."Tolerance".

Comment by Felis Draco on December 25, 2010 at 12:12am Just my 2¢ here: I think your comments were very good, Starrfire, but I know a pretty good number of Christians and have had some very close friends who were Christian. Many Christians do not see anyone outside of their Church as being a follower of Satan, but just not part of their church. In some cases, if they feel close to you, they will believe sincerely that they must try to convert/save you, but they do not believe you are evil/a Satan worshiper. I had a very good friend in high school who was a Baptist (maybe even a Southern Baptist, I honestly don't remember). She tried very hard to convert me (even pulled a couple of sneaky but well-meant things to at least expose me to her church's beliefs); we did finally get to an agreement that she knew she could not convert me, but I accepted that her intentions towards me were something she sincerely believed was the right thing to do because we were friends.
Anyway, I've also been good friends with other Christians, and have held interesting discussions on religion, and especially religion and literature, because I brought a somewhat different view (being Jewish, hadn't necessary found a Pagan path yet, but was leaning that way) to the discussion.
As for Satanists, I am one who thinks that most people will at the least "look askance" at someone who says they are a Satanist, whatever they actually mean by Satan. But worshiping anyone or anything that bases all beliefs on doing evil is something I feel is, at the least, misguided, and at the worst, very twisted and a sorrowful and dangerous thing.
