I personally dont have a formal alter....more of a stack of occult related books, gems, and my tarot deck...and a few other knicknacks.

If you're looking for altar materials, some things can be made out of common items around the house, rocks, or wood. Maybe get creative and see what happens!

I use a conjuring bag. Decide what you want first and place a picture that you have drawn yourself and any herbs you feel that will lead you to these item. During the waxing moon, place the conjuring bag some where moon light will get to it and say something along the lines of asking for help to find these objects. Keep the bag with you at all times and if you get an odd feeling to go popping into a shop listen to it.

The last part is a lesson I learned the hard way.

Oh...I guess I can't reply to blog comments individually...well, hopefully this doesn't get confusing. :)

Ms.Pouncer-Curiousier&Curiousier: Yes, I assume the forums would get more responses, but I couldn't decide where to put this, so I stuck it here, until I'd decided if I wanted to post it, and where. :)

I didn't actually think to search the archives, which is actually a really good idea, because I'm sure someone else has had similar questions in the past.

Until now, I haven't really had a formal altar.  I know there are plenty of people who don't ever really require now.  But I feel like it's time for me to put together something more formal. :)

Serene: Oh, yes, definitely. :)  And I'm hoping to construct my spell such that it helps me find things that can be made into useful things as much as helping me find useful things I can buy. 

Kixs: I asked this question elsewhere, and someone suggested something similar, and that's what I've decided to put together.  I like the idea of having something that I can tuck into my purse and take with me whenever I'm out.  Because if nothing else, it will remind me that I am looking for things, such that I'll actually notice when I come across the right items.  I just need to sit down and make myself a little bag.  Unfortunately, placing the bag in moonlight is actually the hard part.  I live in a tiny basement apartment with only one window which the moon doesn't really shine into.

And I will keep in mind to listen to any odd feelings to go popping into shops. :)
