Masks have been used by humans for over 9000 years. The oldest masks come from the hills and deserts around Jerusalem. They are a Stone Age product and are quite intriguing.
Masks have been worn for various reasons. One old Maya man said that they wore masks so the gods could not recognize them. I guess the “Anonymous” mask we see worn today at protests fit that bill in the sense nobody can recognize the wearer. Masks are worn to impersonate gods, animals, cryptic creatures, the dead, plants, and almost anything else one could imagine. Let’s not forget the masks we wear in society to influence others perceptions.
Modern day Pagans and occultist incorporate masks into their rituals. Some of their masks can be unnerving and scary to children.
While traveling in the astral plane the other day, I acquired an unusual mask. It was made of skin taken from the face of a dead person. What made this mask unusual is that when you put it on, you could feel the desires and emotions of the dead person. Another unusual aspect of this mask is that the eyes and mouth were sewn tightly closed. I took the liberty of cutting away the bindings with my spear to open the eyes and mouth. Seemed like that was the right thing to do at the time.
