I just remembered this place existed. Like, I signed up months ago, and then completely forgot about it. So I thought maybe, now that I've remembered this is here, I'd come and actually check this place out properly (and okay, I might just maybe be procrastinating on the lit. review I have to write for my psycholinguistics class).
I figure it's always best to start with introductions, so, hi! My name is Kate. In my mundane life, I'm a student, doing the first year of my PhD in linguistics. As you might guess, I love languages, especially trying to figure out the finicky bits of how they work, and why. I mean, I love grammar so much that I'm getting a doctorate in it. :P But my speciality, actually, is turning out to be the Algonquian language family, and my eventual career goals are to describe and document endangered Native American languages, and help with encouraging their continued use.
In terms of magical Pagan stuff, I'm, well, I haven't figured it out yet. I do think there's some sort of higher Power(s), and lean more towards pantheism in my views thereof. I don't worship any particular Gods, but I've been exploring the idea of working with a...pantheon, I guess, of archetypal Powers. Like, the physical world is composed of the Powers of the Elements (of which, in my personal system, there are six). As an academic, the Power of Knowledge is pretty important to me. I love the idea of celebrating the turning of the seasons, although I'm still working out how I want to do that. I pretty much ignore most of the Wheel of the Year, though, because I want said celebrations to match up with what is actually happening around me, not some arbitrary days. Just in case it's not already really obvious, I'm not any flavour of (neo)Wiccan, so I also pretty much ignore the Wiccan Rede and the Law of Three.
The swift fox is the metaphorical representation of my personality. So that's where my current picture, and the "fox" in my username comes from. That's also the form of my semi-autonomous imaginary friend (my dæmon), although because he's imaginary, he spends alot of time hanging out as a small dragon, also. I do also have an animal guide (a totem, if you must, though I generally avoid that word because I find it super problematic, but that could fill a whole other post), whom I discovered through use of a guided meditation. That's Black Panther (who refuses to tell me whether she's a melanistic leopard, or melanistic jaguar, because of reasons).
Annnd, I think that covers all of the important bits. Nice to meet you, PaganSpace.
