Ever since the water warmed up I've had my kayak out just about every weekend paddling down different creeks. Kayaking is a great way to get out and experience nature at its absolute best, allowing you to float into another world removed from civilization. Here in the Florida panhandle it's not uncommon to have an osprey glide overhead or to be just mere feet from a green heron. The quieter you are, the better your chances to float past basking turtles or a spot other wildlife coming down to the creek for a drink. Best of all, if the temperature gets too warm, there's always time for a quick dip.
Sometimes I combine my kayaking with fishing. I did a bit of both in Basin Bayou yesterday. Redfish were thick in the grass flats, but too smart for my lures. I finally caught and released a catfish once I paddled into Choctawhatchee Bay.
If you get the chance, take a paddling trip in one of the local creeks or rivers. You'll find a sense of peace you won't soon forget.
