I read a discussion post just now asking why people do not use spellwork more often to make changes in their lives...so heres what I have to say about it:
Spellcraft is a way of promising to yourself or to diety that you will be making change. I suppose it's easy to see Spellcraft as a literally 'magical' tool, where things just happen and you don't have to work, but that's not how spells work at all. They are a representation of commitment and reassurance that you will be making changes through controlling the situation you are in. Most people regardless of spirituality don't really like having to make sacrifices (of time, money, or anything of the sort) to make things happen in their lives...but Spellcraft is just that, a promise that you WILL be doing the things necessary to make changes in your life, like job hunting, passing up a weekend out in order to pay for a car repair, etc. even if you don't want to.
Spellcraft can be very powerful, as long as you believe that by casting a spell, you really will hold your promise and 'do what ya gotta do', regardless of what roadblocks there may be. That is what magick is. It works when you fully believe that it does - meaning that you are stressed about your car damage, but the stress melts away when you cast a spell, because you know that you WILL find a way to get it fixed. The spell represents a promise to yourself that you'll do it, and you no longer need to worry, because your own will is the ultimate determinant of the outcome.:)
Magick is about will. If you believe something needs to happen, then it will happen if you make it.
