Talk about synchronisity.... For the past few days I have been wondering how it would be to have a pet squirrel. I have sugar gliders, which in Australia are the equivalent to having a squirrel...
Here's where things get....welll....squirrelly lol
On the way to work today, my hubby finds a baby squirrel. It was lost and calling for its momma.... my bf got out of his car (with the big heart he has...) and gets the squirrel off the curb of the road and when he tried to go back to the car, this squirrel followed him.... now calling after him... he bent down and it ran to him....no momma in sight...
So, I get a call 10 mins before he should be on the floor.... "Baby... you'll never guess what I have with me....a squirrel!"
Now, this little gaffer is just a baby and I doubt weaned yet. I tried to offer it a watered down milk solution for now (and will offer soften fruit when it wakes...) I want to keep it, but I do realize it is intended to be wild and will try to let it go in my tree in my front yard...
Anyone have any advice for me about this??
Comment by Maris Hellfaerie (Maire) on September 7, 2012 at 9:55pm There is an amazing artist called Ugly Shayla, she has a squirrel.
Look at the video on youtube, she made comments, and more videos. But the real reason why I mention her is because SIN is acquainted with her and might create a contact.
Comment by Bella on September 8, 2012 at 12:50am how cute is that? I also had ababysquirrel follow me yrs ago. i fed it everyday and I swear he thought i was his mommy. I think his mom was struck in the street...sad but true. So i fed him (PB+J and peanuts) as often as I saw him...many times a day...and eventually he grew stronger and we didnt see much of him. I like to think he ran off and lived his little squirrel life...and maybe needed me for the early months until he was able to fend for himself. I wanted to keep him also...so cute. But in a way, I did have him..we defiantely had a bond.

Ok, a few yrs ago my brother found a baby squirrel in the road and of course he had to bring it to me...I set up a living space for him like a hampster, complete with water bottle that he could nurse from and some hampster food...He was a happy happy squirrel..we were even able to let him out and have the run of the house (when the cats werent around!)..He would sit on my shoulder or top of my head, he was funny and cute to have around..the day came when we had to let him go (lots of nuts trees around here)..we let him go, watched him run up a tree and that was it...a few weeks later we were sure we spotted him, there was one squirrel that come closer to us then any other, we were sure it was him coming back to say hello. Advice, set up a living space similiar to a hampster, including crushed nuts, corn etc, and a hanging water bottle...he should do ok, Good Luck!
So far, he slept most of the time. I have fed him from a glass waterbottle (only one I had in the house) and tried water first, but he kinda refused and then tried a mix of water and milk (kinda like for human babies, to make it easier to digest...) He drank that and passed out drinking lol
I tried banana last night, but he didn't want anything other than milk..... until this morning. He took the banana mashed up after I put a taste of it on his lips. It was so cute, he was actually suckling it. I tried raspberry with it as well. He likes banana better (it is sweeter)
