Well the storm has hit and so far so good. Thankfully we have avoided any major damage. Yesterday was a horrible day. There were flash floods everywhere. It took me 40 mins to get to work (normally it's a 15 min drive) The storm literally shook my office building. The state in downtown Harrisburg as well as all other businesses were shut down due to extensive flooding. Harrisburg is in a state of Emergency as is the small town I live in right on the outskirts of Harrisburg.
Last night there was a small amount of water in the basement, nothing to really worry about. We were able to clean it up with the shop vac in 10 min, some minor rearrangement of furniture is all it took.
Work was closed today, as were all local schools. There was a house collapse in Hershey and many of the poor animals were drowned in Zoo America in Hershey. It was horrible seeing the video on the news of the poor bison caught in the rapids from the flood. One poor animal had to be euthanized. Today those in Harrisburg area closest to the Susquehanna River had to be evacuated. The river is due to crest later this evening. They say this is the worst flood since 1972!
Yesterday there was news of a woman who heroically battled a rapid rise of water to save her little dog. She was at work when news hit of the flood in her area. She had her dog in his crate, the norm for him during the day. She was stopped several blocks away from her home because the waters were too high to safely drive through. She treaded through the water to reach her dog in the nick of time. When she arrived his cage was almost entirely submerged with water and his little snout was pointed upward to keep his face out of water. He couldn't even bark at that point, but thankfully he wasn't hurt.
I ask that everyone who reads this keep this area and any others that have recently been affected by mother nature in your thoughts and workings. Please let those you know to keep us all in your workings and to send as much protective energies our way.
Blessings,
Elena
