THE BEAUTY OF LOVE

Love is a strange, wonderful and mysterious force that binds people together. I find it fascinating and beautiful. It has so many forms (colors of love, I like to say) and each of these colors never stays the same for long. It just depends on what we blend with the colors that determines how the colors fade or get brighter. The colors change because there is always some kind of movement in love. It's like with all things in life. There is birth, growth, sometimes sickness then healing (or not), decay then death...and repeat. All of these stages of love are completely dependent on the nourishment they get. Even the birth of love can instantly be killed by the wrong influence. It's all my humble opinion, and like I said, love is mysterious.

No two forms of love are ever identical. There may be similarities, but each relationship is unique. Friendships, partners, lovers, parents, sisters, brothers, children...and within each of those we find idiosyncrasies that make each one special. How do we survive such a complicated word like love? It can be boring, too intense, heartbreaking, unstable, self-destructive, ugly, mean and so many other unpleasant things...because we are human. But, would we be able to feel the peace, ecstasy, goodness, happiness and all the other wonderful, beautiful attributes of love, without those unpleasant things?

It is very easy to forget the love we have for someone. Relationships become routine and the people that mean the most to us are the ones that get hurt the worse. A conscious effort of respect, kindness and forgiveness can help us keep relationships on a level high enough to remember what they mean to us. Remember to say I love you. Love is simple and at the same time very complicated. The word unconditional comes to mind. We don't always like the way someone is, but we have to remind ourselves that it doesn't matter. It is the essence of the person we love, their spiritual being, that is important. It is unconditional love that spreads through all of us and beyond to the worlds we don't see, uniting everything.

I think one of the secrets of staying at peace with ourselves is knowing and accepting the color, shade and evolvement or decay that is found in our relationships. Easy enough in theory, but maybe not so much in the actual relationship. There are no set rules except whatever ethics we hold in our heart. It is up to each person to decide how they define their moral code of love, if I can call it that. There are many sacred texts that speak of love that can be used in our lives. There are cultural codes of love passed on from generation to generation. Then there is our utterly amazing human heart that, when given the chance, can speak to us perfectly about how to realize love in our lives.

Love fascinates people of all ages. I'm not writing anything that hasn't been written before. How many books have been written on love? How many articles and poems? It heightens our emotions, makes us curious, gives us a wide variety of inspirations and gives us new goals in life. It can help us to look outside of the box and discover new ways to brings people together in love. It can make us more giving, selfless and accepting of the way others spread love. We can focus love into all types of music. We can use poetry and art to inspire others to begin to search within themselves for love. In love we open ourselves willingly, become vulnerable, in order to freely give as much of ourselves we think the other person needs. We gain new qualities within ourselves we never thought possible.

But, there is something many don't think about while they are learning to love others. They are learning how to love themselves as well. Go to the mirror and look yourself in the eyes everyday and say, I love you. If you don't mean it, just do it. Make it a conscious effort to love yourself. Be kind to yourself and treat yourself with the same love and kindness you show others.

I believe we become whatever we feed our minds with. We can attempt to fill our hearts with love, but when our minds become filled with too many matters of the world, our soul suffers. We have to find a balance or we become our own worst enemy. My resolution for the new year is to keep my focus on things that feed my spirit that is living in this case of flesh and bones. I believe that by doing this, the purity of truth and love will shine both inside of me and to others.

In the spirit of Love,
Lisa aka Kallisto
