I have been a practicing Pagan, since I was 13 or 14 years old. It interested me to know what else was out there beside your run of the mill fire and brimstone. So I began to learn. I didn't really take it seriously until I was having to do a paper for English on the Greek Pantheon. Everywhere I turned I came across the Goddess of the Crossroad and holder of keys Hecate. I didn't choose her. She chose me. Honestly that is how many pagan's have to start out. You can't just sit your but down and say hey I am going to follow Zeus, Hera, Thor or Loki, they have to choose you.
Do not be afraid when you hear that other God calling you. Maybe its your time to learn with them.
Just a friendly neighbhorhood reminder from the Hereditary Witch on Campus. )0(
Comment by Apollyon Rising on August 5, 2012 at 7:32pm Funny story I was actually remotely interested in Sumerian and Babylonian mythology, especially as a comparison between the myths in the Bible (such as the Enuma Elish and Genesis, Inanna's descent to the nether world and Tammuz's annual death, and Christ death and resurrection ect). I never believed in the Sumerian pantheon though. I'm a Christian too, but not an Evangelist.
Comment by Apollyon Rising on August 5, 2012 at 7:34pm What I got from it is that much of hebrew folklore and myth came from earlier cultures. Well at least this theory is more plausible than divine revelation.
I often struggle with whether a God or Goddess is attracting my attention because they are choosing me, or just because I look at their attributes and pictures and think "ooh they look super cool!" Like whether it's just my subconscious going, it'd be awesome to learn about them, or whether it really is God or Goddess trying to draw my attention to them. I'm only just starting out though really, so I'm sure things will make themselves clear in time :) BB x
Comment by Phoebe Silverwolf on August 16, 2012 at 10:31pm Ronaele - one way to look at it is as such - if they are constantly on your mind and they are every where that you turn, or even so much as you feel like they are calling you, even if you think ooo cool, they are probably calling you. Just keep that in mind. No one is going to force you ever to pick just one god. If an entire pantheon is calling you, or one sticks out to you, start there and see who from there. BB hun )0(
