Many people throughout history have searched out the grail, from the time of its appearance in the Arthurian Romances through the Crusades. The Knights Templar were ordered to set up a "New Jeresulem" and to ensure the safety of people who wished to visit the holy city.
The Knights Templar
"Faith of our fathers, living still in spite of dungeon, fire and sword..."
To this day The Knights Templar have been associated with King Arthur and specifically as the keepers of The Holy Grail. The Templars set forth to set up a New Jeresulem and formed a bond with the Masonic Order. On writing to King Arthur, Geoffrey and Payen de Montdidier who was one of the founding members of the original nine Templars) stated that they had "uncovered historic documents" and claimed "ownership of sacred scrolls containing lost teachings of Jesus". So was The Holy Grail ancient holy documents?
Christianity teaches that The Holy Grail was the chalice that Jesus drank out of at The Last Supper however, in The Bible, (the gospel of John) which outlined every detail of Jesus death, nowhere is this chalice mentioned. There have been many other descriptions e.g., a plate, a crystal vase, the original philosopher's stone... so is The Holy Grail merely a metaphor?
It is common knowledge that The Holy Grail appears for the first time, in any form of writing, at the end of the 12th century in the fictional work of Chretien de Troyes. Was The Grail merely a fictional piece that has tugged at the hearts of millions down through the eras or is it in fact one of the great spiritual mysteries once held secret by the Knights Templar that has been lost in the obscurity of time?
