I have been trying to figure this out for the last five years. Why do people have to label their magic, their craft? I understand putting a label on your spirituality, your religion, it is so you can communicate what your beliefs are to others. I mean if you are a heathen, then people can question you about your gods and goddesses, and your beliefs about them.

I am a witch, I practice witchcraft. Not just white, or dark, or green, or celtic, or druid, kitchen, cottage, ect. I am a witch. I practice magic and I don't ask for a passport from it before I use it. So why does it need a label.

To be a witch is to practice witchcraft. It doesn't have a thing to do with religion/spirituality beyond your personal morals.  A witch is someone that practices magic = witchcraft. So if you don't practice magic then your not a witch. That seems pretty simple to me. So to all those people that say I am a pagan witch, wiccan witch,  but I don't do magic/witchcraft, clue your not a witch, your an electic pagan. No magic/witchcraft, no witch, simple.

Being a witch has nothing to do with your religion, unless your religion sees the practice of magic as wrong. Then you had bettter not become a witch or you had better get a different religion.

Magic has types, not paths. A path is how you follow your religion/spirituality. So why don't people say,  I practice egyption type magic. Not I follow the egyption path and then get bent when asked what types of magic they like to use when they state they are a witch. The come back is always some what like this. "I said I follow the egyption path." As if that answer your question. So you worship egyption gods and goddesses, good for you. Doesn't tell me what types of magic you use. Really it's ok to say you use candle magic, herb magic or what have you, or even egyption type magic. Then I would know what type of magic you like to use and I can ask questions and learn about your craft.

By the way witchcraft is that a craft. Not a religion. I know some types of magic uses some types of deities, but that is still a type of magic, not a religion or path. Believe me, you do not have to worship Isis to get that deity to assist you in a magical working. So no you don't have to follow that path of spirituality or religion to do that type of magic.

So label you spirituality. Type your magic. Who knows maybe we can get some discussion on here about magic and ease up on religion and spirituality.

With each religious path, that has a label, will often tell you the types of magick. But often there are those who don't know what you mean by 'type of magick' and tend to think that a stereotype need be followed or things should be done a certain way, so will try to simplify.....don't forget there are fakes as well ;)

In my culture, we make a difference between Hexerei, Sorcery and Wizardry. A Hexe is traditionally someone who uses local things of all kinds, and who lives in a rural area. Sorcerers...*and Wizards are cosmopolitans and in most legends they live in cities, the bigger the better.

In reality, because no one with half a brain self-identifies as a "witch" traditionally, there are disciplines like healing (animals, trees and humans - all are seperate healing skills), spirit-healing (brauchers in your culture), metals- and water finding, and herb lore.

Farming and working people all have their own types of "witchcraft", strange superstitions and tricks, and spells, be that blacksmith, baker, miller, farmer, midwife, woodworker, mason or shepherd. All trades have their secret, but if you ask them, no one pracitses any witchcraft, and at least the skilled homekeepers.
