Maurice Sendak, children's author, question...

I am sure most of you have heard of Maurice Sendak, the children's book author. He wrote "Where the Wild Things Are", which I always loved.

Last night, my little grand daughter, Kyla, found a video in the basement that she wanted to watch. It was "Little Bear's Winter Tales" by Maurice Sendak. I have no idea where it came from, she just found it down there! Anyway, it was several tales of Little Bear and his winter doing, including, NOT a Christmas Celebration but a Winter Solstice Celebration. It was actually pretty cute but it made me wonder. Is Maurice Sendak a pagan or something similar? Does anyone know. It would actually explain a lot! LOL I always loved his books and my ex hated them because he said they were "satanic". (His words, trust me, not mine. He's a "good christian". LOL)

Does anybody know? I'm just curious...

That is a good question, I may look into it. Despite the fact that I have 2 children I've never seen this video before. I might look for it too, my three year old will love it. I too have always loved Maurice Sendak's books, he is such a wonderful story teller. I'll let you know if I find anything out.

Merry Yule,

Hi I think I have found the answer to your question about Maurice Sendak. He was born in the United States, and is a follows Judeaism. I hope I spelled that correctly. The stories he wrote were based on the stories his family told him about thier life in Poland. He didn't write Little Bear, he just illustrated it. Else Holmelund Minarik was the author of Little Bear and she is from Denmark. I hope this answered your question.

Love and Light,
Kristen

When my youngest daughter was little, she loved to watch Little Bear on tv. We have seen the winter solstice episode several times, we loved it.

Thanks! I had looked him up and found out some info, I think the Solstice stuff came from his European influence. My little grand daughters LOVES Little Bear and wants to watch it everytime she comes over! I like the fact that it teaches a little about different cultures.
