Witchboards or Ouija Boards

I was recently given a handmade wooden Witchboard as a gift. I haven't used it yet because years ago there was a bad incident with a Ouija Board and my teenage daughter. My daughter became very involved with the Ouija board given to us by a neighbor, it had previously belonged to her Great Aunt who was A Witch In Guatemala. It came to her in a box of her Aunt's things and she didn't want it in her house so I took it for the kids. We lived in a very old farmhouse in the country, that was definitely haunted.
Anyway, my daughter started loosing track of time what she thought were only a few minutes at the barn were hours. I would see her places like going in the bathroom or out the front door and call to her and she wouldn't answer. Then she would be in her room and deny ever being there. Two times I woke up in the night and caught her in a sleep like trance on the floor raking hot coals out of the wood stove on to the floor! Well still every night she wanted to talk to this boy David on the Ouija Board who claimed to have burned up and died in a Kitchen fire in our house. When I took the board away from her and put it up where she couldn't use it she cried and threw a fit for days. I put the board in the attic and we moved not too long after that and she has been fine ever since. So you can see why I'm leery, but still I am drawn to this board. One reason because when I was a child and had a Ouija Board mine said Fly Away instead of Good Bye like this one does, second because it has witches on it, and third because of who gave it to me, and last I can't explain just a feeling!
So I know there lots of bad things associated with the Ouija Board, but I also know that people use them without problems too. There are proper ways to use the board like saying prayers, casting circles, cleansing the board etc... So I am asking for help from anyone who may no what to do to protect yourself while using your board.
Also if you would like to share any stories that would be great too!

Useing it alone at an early age with no experience was a mistake but studied abit about it in my twentys and found out that it can be one of the best tools for contacting spirits ( or so called bad spirits, that i found out the hard way ) you do not want to do unless very experienced You are accurate in what you say, this was one of the many things that was of interest to me as a child. I don"t use the board anymore but am now rekindled in my magick to use it again. Did you know that the board is most powerful when handcrafted by a mystic of the craft.; ▶ Reply to This

Permalink Reply by cecilianna on June 10, 2008 at 8:58pm: Well for starters when using any board whether it be a Ouija or a scrying board, you have to open the doorways, the easiest for me was using a similar fashion of casting a circle. When you are finished with your session, always Close the board, if this is not done, your leaving the door between this world and the world you connected with wide open, and that's never good. So my advice would be to sit down, and think how you would like to open and close your sessions, put to paper so you always have it; I had one that I had made for a friend, and had burned the opening and closing on an additional wooden panel. I hope the spirits help you find your friend, and I hope that they're here in this world.

Permalink Reply by cecilianna on June 20, 2008 at 2:06am: It doesn't matter whether or not it's an actual board or paper laid out on top of a table, you should always say a special chant opening the board or layout, (which helps to open the doorway) and you should say a chant closing the board or layout (which in turn closes the doorway). It's like a circle, whether it had been done by lighting candles or using flowers, you would still have to call the corners as well as the Gods, and at the end you would need to release them, as well as give your thanks for joining your circle.

Ouija is from the Kemetic words "wadj", and "udja" (pronounced WOO-jah), which mean health and power. "Wadj-t" meant "a powerful woman who can bend energy."

Wadj. Ouija. Witch.

Truly, only a person of skill, healing wisdom, and power should use the board. Otherwise it can spell trouble because the unskilled can unwittingly invite all kinds of low level energies/spirits that are seeking a portal through the ignorant.

Dragon's Blood incense is a great cleansing and protective tool used even in exorcisms. Make certain you are grounded and centered. And above all, appraoch the board with confidence, but humility. If you have ANY doubts, fears, misgivings, LEAVE IT ALONE.

People along with witches have used the spirit board to gain answers to questions in which they had to make contact to a different world.; ▶ Reply to This

My cousin had a board and we decided to "play" with it and we didn't understand that they are more than just "game" boards. To make a long story short....we ended up making the spirit that we were channeling through the board angry. For days after that my cousin and I kept having strang experiences happening to us. It finally took my mother who was feeling the spirit's presence to get us to fess up and set things right. Thanks to my mother who showed us the proper way to use and treat the board, we made things right and asked for forgivness. I know that blessing and protection spells are a MUST before using a talking board. The most important thing is the thanking the spirits and closing the board properly so the gateway is not left open for other spirits to come through. Now that i am practicing the Craft more, I want to make my own talking board. Thanks for posting this because it really is good advice and a wonderful subject.

When closing the board always say a 'Thank you' to the spirit when closing contact with the board, and ask that it causes no harm to any person as it returns to where it came from. I also use my mother's method of cleansing the board after each use with a sage smuge wand. That way the negativity that the board may or may not have been picked up is removed before I put it away.
