Her lovely comment came about when talking about wedding traditions. Why is the wedding band worn on the left hand to be exact. That was the question. I am gonna put the link in here to watch the clip. If you feel like emailing NBC, do it. If you do not that is cool also. The comment is about 5 minutes into the segment. Blessed Be.

I have to say that i'm not offended at all by this.

I looked at the person, content, context, the cheesy music in the background and I'm not bothered by it. I belong to a local NJ Pagan Yahoo group and there was a frenzy of indignation about this snippet. Let me tell you that some of the replies and posts were horrendous in their content. Extremely offensive to the "other side" even while they demanded an apology. The audacity.

I have not read all the comments here so please forgive me if the following seems harsh.

I'm not that worried about public image and I don't go on a head hunt when someone disparages pagans. It happens all the time to every conceivable group of people on the planet. I live my life, to the best of my ability, by the Nine Noble Virtues and that speaks more than a million e-mails.

I can smell the flames coming in my direction already...but here goes... For those that are on a rampage about this topic and follow the Rede. (here it comes Sabrina :P )

The bruised feelings of the over-sensitive do not constitute harm.

I posted that on another board and got private e-mails that were 1 thousand times more offensive than the subject matter in question.

Again, I just don't see what the outrage and indignancy is about. Live your life well and whole and you will never need to worry about something as trivial as bad press.

Isenhelm,
you're not alone in the pyre.
I,too, belong to several groups in NJ and let me tell you
in the last 24 hours I've been called everything under the sun by alot of "fine, upstanding" "pagan" folks.
I knew by writing what I did,I wasn't going to win the popularity contest.
( oh poor me)
Opinions are like A-holes,trying to figure out which is which is another story.
Isn't it truly amazing how many can scream "offended" and set fire to their own kind in the process.

Let the trolls come out from under their little bridges and yammer on.
In a few days all this will be history and they will patiently
await the next moment of injustice and self-imposed hysteria.
The Craft, as we know it, will still stand strong and survive.
They,on the other hand, will be gone once they find another path to trod.

What an outrage! Thanks Raven for getting this message out! I made mention of it on my podcast and am putting the email and phone number to NBC on my website! I'll be sending them an email later today!

See, I don’t watch Television for that simple fact right there, call me back woodsy, call me shallow, call me whatever you like, But DON’T call me a "Bad Nasty Pagan" .

My life doesn’t revolve around what "THEY" are doing, it revolves around what "I" am doing. It highly disturbs me that someone, who is watched and known by millions, can get on National television and label "US" Bad Nasty Pagans, I guess like some of you said, some of you just aren’t affected, To me it's "MY" way of life, and yes it affects me and my family, and yes I am upset.
AND
The only time things of that nature affect me is when someone "Brings" it to my attention, in groups here, or calls me on the phone, or people I visit. I don’t watch BS television shows, I don’t watch BS politics shows, I don’t watch the News of any sort. (If a Tornado is on the way, a member from my family or a close friend will call me)

I don’t care who Kathy Lee Gifford is, what I care about is what she labeled "US" to be. I, among a few other's will NOT be purchasing anything from Samsung in the future, until We have word that her statement was made right to "OUR PAGAN COMMUNITY"

I am by now over it. I was alittle upset. I do believe they should make an apology. I'm pretty sure she wasn't talking about the Pagans (motorcycle gang). I just think it should be brought to light, in a respectful, peaceful, educational way what pagans are and aren't. Yes live your life your way and be happy and proud. But the only way to get people educated about paganism and other earth based beliefs and ways of life out there is to bring it up and to tell someone like Ms. Gifford what you said was wrong. People believe what they see and hear on TV. A comment like that has an impact on a lot of peoples lives whether we see it in our part of the world or not. We just need to get some people educated and what better way than to have Ms. Gifford do a show on it? (though the thought of her hosting it not a much a favorite, though she should be involved some how)

Again most of this uproar will be caused by those who have nothing better to do with their day.
These idiots need to get a life and / or a job to occupy their time
other than whiling away the hours with inconsequential Internet babble.
Some folks just aren't happy unless they feel persecuted.
Perhaps they have "burning times" envy?

I see Icarus felt the "Need" to post twice (or maybe more I haven't checked). He must include himself in his statement above!

Yes indeed,it felt so nice I did it twice.
Once here in this discussion and on MY blog.
And yes maybe you should check.
I didn't forget my formative days in the beginning, so persecuted,so vengeful.
The difference lies in being a neophyte and a seasoned vet.

and yet again my response will be....
" Let the trolls come out from under their little bridges and yammer on.
In a few days all this will be history and they will patiently
await the next moment of injustice and self-imposed hysteria."

And if you really "feel the need" to make this an online pissing match might I suggest we don't waste valuable space and time and take this thing backchannel.
You know how to reach me, I await your response there.

To be honest, she kinda made my day. She's always been a hypocrite at best and an idiot at worst, so I don't take anything she says seriously. Also, why in the hells would anyone want an insincere apology? I sure don't... especially not from her. She's not important enough to care what she thinks.

After seeing messages/discussions/blogs similar to this one all over the internet in the last couple of days, I certainly understand the mixed reactions. Even so, I still can't help but imagine if she'd said something like that to an actual pagan. Imagine the reaction she would have gotten then.....

Okay, so I have an overactive imagination. But it's fun to consider the different ways different pagans would have reacted. So yeah... she kinda made my day. WEG

Should we be mildly offended that she disparaged pagans by spouted her ignorance on national TV? Probably yes, as is evidenced by other discriminatory remarks by other pseudo-celebs in recent years, if the comments were concerning other groups the uproar would be stupendous. Is it necessary to email, phone or petition for an apology? If you feel so inclined (as I did) absolutely, again press conferences have been called in recent years for close minded people to apologize for their comments made in much smaller venues, or even in when not connected to a public appearance at all. Should we lose sleep over it and name call ? Absolutely not.... as others have stated before...consider the source.

My point to this would be, that although she may be a fundamentalist xian and has a right to her beliefs, or ignorance of paganism, I feel that to spew such things on NBC is what was wrong. The network should make an apology and she should be told to keep her personal beliefs to herself.

Here is the site where you go and petition. I think there needs to be at least 5,000 signatures.
