So i've some pretty mixed answers about wether or not wicca and witchcraft are the same.. some say that they are the same and others say no so im just wondering on what people have to say bout that
Here is a link to an article that Mike Nichols wrote on the subject. I also use to bealive that Wicca and Witchcraft were two separate things. However in Mr. Nichols article he brought up so very good points.
In a very simple explanation:
witchcraft: A Non-religious practice of folk magic and superstitious beliefs that are generally regional or cultural in nature. It has no specific beliefs or teachings. And has no deity. It can be incorporated into religious practices.
Wicca: A specific, initiatory RELIGION that uses a form of witchcraft in their religious practice.
Which is why:
In order to be Wiccan, one must be a Witch. Since witchcraft is part of the way the religion is practiced. (Not everyone agrees with this, but hey.)
But in order to be a Witch, you do NOT have to be a Wiccan. Since its only one of many, many religions a Witch can follow.
I was trying to think of something like that Sin. Leave it up to you to read my demented little mind. I think that something like that would be a good area. Have past discussions in that FAQ area.
Hello Maria, I will try to explain it: no wicca and witchcraft are not the same. They mean two different things. Wiccans believe in the rede and concept of "harm ye none". Alot of people use these two terms interchangably and they are not. Wicca was developed by Gerald Gardner. Wicca is more cermonial than witchcraft. Wiccans also believe in The Three-fold Law, which says: "All good that a person does to another returns three-fold in this life; harm is also returned three-fold." Wicca believes in a balance of the god/goddess or ying/yang or the Lord and the Lady. A witch may believe in one, many ,or no deities. Wicca is a religion and Witchcraft is not. A witch practices the art of magick.Witchcraft is the act of using the natural energies of herbs, stones or other elements or objects with the energies that exist within yourself. Witchcraft is a practice. One can be a witch and be wiccan but, not all witches are wiccan. I call myself a witch. There is my two cents on the topic:)
