Actually, you dont become a medium, you are a medium. The only reason people get confused and freaked out when they find out they have such an ability, is due to the fact that they never tapped into it before and they are noticing it.

You can however, meditate and open your minds eye, your third eye. there are excersizes you can find either on line or in books to help you focus and open your minds eye. Play with some divination tools such as Tarot cards and rune stones. Practicing with such tools will also help open your minds eye.
