I know! I know! Pretty lame cemetery joke...

I wanted to ask if anyone has written what they would like on their tombstone or lawn plaque - the words that will live on after you die.

How about your obituary?
What legacy will you leave for generations of people to remember you by?

On my grave plaque I'd like these words...
Remember Yesterday.
Enjoy Today
Live into Tomorrow.

I have asked my daughter (when it's my time to shuffle off) to paint my cardboard Enviro coffin, bury me somewhere with a nice view and plant a tree on me.

Anyone else have funeral plans?

Cremation. Other than that, it's completely up to the S/O what he wants to do. i won't be here, so i don't really care. It's what ever will help him in the grieving process.

That's a really good point Tamarah - it is the people left behind that decide ultimately what happens with our earth suit.

mmmm BBQ....
...tastes like chicken?..

OH food FOR the guests not of the guests?
I thought you were headign towards some sort of keeping the energy in the tribe kind of deal... although it has been popular in soome cultures. On some pacific islands cannablism was popular till about 80 years ago.

I thought it tasted like pork...and would there be an alternative entree for vegetarian mourners?

Personally, I've nothing against cannibalism so long as you're not killing people strictly for food...

I've talked to hubby, one of my sisters, and one of my brothers about this...

Stick me in a plain box (no embalming, please!), stick me in the ground somewhere nice, and plant a tree on me. (Great minds think alike!)

However, after one of my uncles passed away fairly recently, I've come to the conclusion that it is probably essential to have written instructions on the matter. Half of my aunts and uncles on my father's side of the family are now not talking to the other half (cousins/my sibs included.) The reason being that my uncle told my father what he wanted, and some of his siblings wanted something different. My father insisted, made sure that he got what he wanted, and now they're not speaking to him (or my siblings or me, it seems.) Go figure...

So, you can tell people what you want all you want, but unless you have it in writing (legally) that could all go out the window, and cause familial rifts in the process.

I want them to play "Free Bird" at my memorial service and scatter my ashes at the sacred circle at my sisters house on the mountain. NO tombstone! And want them to play all my favorite music and talk about me and tell all my stories and have a huge dinner and a party and I want everyone to have FUN in my honor.

OR, do like the Buddhists do, let me sit where I died for a few days and then haul me off to the mountains to let the critters feast on my lifeless corpse so that at least SOME use may be made of it. :) And THEN the party and everything, LOL.

Peace Lily

FYI- The Free Bird thing is actually a mothers revenge! LOL ALL my kids LOVE that song and if they play it at my memorial, it'll ruin it for them forever! HEHEHEHE

I have asked that I be cremated, and that all three of my children spread/bury my ashes somewhere together.
I don't need/want a maker because I know my energy will still go on and on and on.....
If they need/want one, then it will be up to them. But I hope that they will remember wherever and whenever they are.

I reckon our generation will live that long - with all the medical technology. We (as a collective average) are returning to an active conscious lifestyle which was lost during the industrial revolution.

According to mine, I'll die at around 78. That works for me.
