About Me:
I am 40+, married, and have two children. I was raised Christian, but left the church when I was 19, and I first encountered Paganism in my 20s. I felt that it included many of the things that I already sympathized with: environmentalism, feminist spirituality, and so forth. It still took many years before I felt free to identify as a Pagan, though, mostly because I do not reconstruct any form of ancient paganism. I do think it's interesting to learn about various forms of Paganism; whether you reconstruct ancient forms of worship or you improvise in your own way, or perhaps do a little bit of both. I read a lot, but I still feel there is infinitely more to learn.
Favorite Books
The Earth Path: Grounding Your Spirit In the Rhythms of Nature by Starhawk
Spirituality Without Structure: The Power of Finding Your Own Path by Nimue Brown
Druidry and the Ancestors: Finding Our Place In Our Own History by Nimue Brown
Mythic Images and Shamanism: A Perspective on Kalevala Poetry by Anna-Leena Siikala
The Old Ones in the Old Book: Pagan Roots of the Hebrew Old Testament by Philip West
... and many, many more books in English or Swedish
Beliefs / Practices
Spiritual but not Religious
Other Beliefs/Practices
I'm interested in learning about deities, mostly goddesses but not exclusively so. What I believe about deities is to some extent uncertain; but I have come to understand that they're important to many people including myself. My focus is mostly on deities from Irish, Welsh, and Finnish mythology - my interest for Finnish mythology and folklore is to a large extent due to curiosity about my own Finnish roots; but I also feel drawn to Celtic mythology without having Celtic ancestry as far as I know of. Sometimes I write poetry to the deities I feel called to; I also write guided meditations for my own personal practice.
Hobbies
Reading and writing are two things I do quite a lot. I'm interested in linguistics; history of religion; researching my ancestors; and would also like to learn more about music, nature, intersectionalism, and analyzing power structures in various contexts. I am a big fan of the UN declaration of children's rights.
Heroes
My grandmother, my husband, and my children. And Carl Sagan, probably.
How did you find PaganSpace?
I learned about it from YouTube Pagans on Facebook.
