I wonder how well thought out this idea is.

It is stated that drugs put you closer to 'the veil' (between our reality and an alternate one)

This is why so many use them for 'shamanic practices'

It seems that psychic ability is on the rise.... but why? What is causing this increase?

If the 60's was the drug era, and the children produced from the users would be 'crack babies' (to be used as a term for all drugs, not just for crack) then their brain chemistry had been altered since birth....

Drugs are notorious altering the brain chemistry, and the way certain receptors work. Basically, if you destroy one path in the brain, the chemicals in the brain find an alternate route to distribute the certain chemicals.

What if, the reason for the upsurge of psychic ability is caused from that major bender in the 60's through to the 80's?

Please try not to be offended by this theory, and do not take it personal. I am merely speculating about the effects of drugs and psychic ability...

My theory from my scientific mind: People think it's cool, so they claim to have it.  Fluffy people are rampant.  Ask these people to prove it, and watch as they shy away, or find out to be making false claims.

xD I have a hippie mom and a drug addict (various+alcohol) as a dad, but I have young parents, and my mother got into experimenting when I was already out of the womb and not breastfed anymore, but I can follow your reasoning. Haha yes sometimes it appears just like that.

But, in a way it is rather frivolous, as you noticed by yourself already.

I think that being psychic somehow works as making one more special. I think a lot of people are lying, and I think that a lot of people also have forgotten that e.g. my Great grandmothers generation was content with "just knowing" things. They were too busy to spend time with such luxury hobbies.

I heard *many* anecdotes from "old" people which revolved around having a dream, or even a vision, and then it really happened. Which means, I am questioning that there is an upsurge. There is a change in how it's handled.

It's not an unreasonable thought. The proving is difficult without the autopsies results, brain scans, controled testing and affidavit testimony.

I think the high exposure to lead certainly altered the brain chemistry of the Romans, and their offspring.

Alcohol consumption produced generations of altered subjects in European realms.

The ravages of syphilis can still be seen amongst the descendants of those who suffered with the disease and produced children.

Cause and affect.

I like your theory. Now lets tear it apart shall we...lol.

Huamns have used mind bending substances for centuries in many parts of the world. I, as a native have used natural substances to obtain visions at different stages of my spiritual growth. It has been the custom of Native American's for centuries.

Now with that being said, I do not see a larger number of Native American's developing their psychic abilities than non-native American's.

But in the context of your theory, then the non-native Americans that discovered mind bending substances in the mid 20th century did, well get carried away with the use of them. Also a lot of them were of the chemical kind of substances and not of the natural type. LSD comes to mind here, and we all know how chemicals can alter the human body, from just from the use of pharmacitcial's that the health profession subscribe to the world.

So with those thoughts, I would agree your theory would need farther investigation to prove it wrong. Because at face value it seems to be a possible answer to why some have become more aware of their psychic abilities.

LSD is known to alter the mind. It burns holes in the brain tissue. I have heard it stated that LDS alters 'genetics' (but I am unsure about that claim... although I had heard it about other chemical drugs as well) but in light of that statement, I wondered......And please do pic k it apart. I wanted it torn to shreds ;)

I wonder also, since you mention Natives. What if they are so in tune, because they have been practicing (controlled and safe) drug use for centuries? What if drugs really are 'fairy dust'? What if drugs are the reason we can tap into the other realm? The human eye can only see about 1% (or something like that) of the color spectrum... what if drugs are the reason we are able to open up to those parts of the spectrum? (If that is what is really happening?)

Anthony, I do agree there are many who claim psychic ability and are complete bullshitters. I personally have my own experiences that made me wonder what was really going on.

I am a very honest person. I share what I have been through, but am unsure as to why these visions/hallucinations are happening....and how I am not the only one making these claims....

Many times I have done readings for others, relayed messages in an unusual speech pattern for me,  interpreted dreams, and have seen my fair share of 'spirits' (ok, well only 4 or 5.... depending if you count the shadowman figure... lol)

I am not the type to share my 'abilities' in reality, unless I am comfortable with the persons stance on the occult....

Marie, I do not want to offend, but what if your parents did drugs before and quit when they found out about you? People will definately lie to a child about drug use (especially if they were young when havin you)

On another note...Is it possible the fathers sperm could carry the 'psychic gene' if he was the hard user?

FM and RB, I wish there was some way to test this theory.

If there is evidence that ALCOHOL (which is legal...) altered generations in Europe, then I say it is not unreasonable to postulate this idea... maybe this is the cause and effect for psychic ability.

*note, when I say psychic ability, I mean the ability to see the possible futures (most likely) outcome and the ability to see/hear or communicate with the non-living

no, my mother was barely 19 and practically locked up before she eloped with my dad.
and no, i have no trash genes.
my father started to be a heavy drug user about when i was born. i guess it was the disappointment, too. I have an above average IQ and am considered to have a remarkably sharp perception, this is the assessment of professionals, i did not make this up.

and yeah, this is really offensive.

I do think that altered chemistry of the mother could play a role in child brain and psychic development, however,I would bring up the abundance of Indigo childern all over the world, not just where the "60's" happened. It could be aurgued that the chemical additives in our foods and flouride in our drinking water would be a more plausible cause due to their widespread use and the need for a consistant level of exsposure in order to make substantial changes to a child. That being said, I believe we have always been psychic. Think about our ancient ancestors who were prey as well as predators, those who "listened" to that inner voice that warned of dangers were more likely to survive long enough to pass on genes. It is more likely that the witch haters of the last 2000 years have just driven the vocabulary used for this "Natural " ability underground. It is only now, with the freedom we have, that these abilities are being spoken about and documented. Yes, there are lots of scammers out there, but I believe lots of gifted people as well.
